Water cup change??

We found that if you request water from a Starbucks, you not only get a HUGE cup of ice water, but the water is of very good quality...we would stop there when it started warming up and they would last us a few hours. :)

No, they are not because cups of water are a widely available amenity at even cheap fast food restaurants. It is not something that was unique to Disney. Nor does this change actually save Disney any money.
But it will discourage people using the free cups as an alternative to buying a drink or bringing their own cups and using the fountains. It adds some more friction to discourage the undesirable behavior.

Disney should install the refill stations that are common in airports now and just put all the whiners to bed. You want free filtered and chilled water? Bring your own and fill up here. No more waiting in line at qs... No more cup and labor losses for Disney... Removes the cheap alternative at the counter.

The additional friction for the guest is almost nonexistent. One just asks for two cups. The friction is on Disney's side, spending more time and money filling additional cups.

This change doesn't address any hypothetical abuses. And when Cast Members tell people to ask for cups of water it can hardly be much of an abuse.

Sure it does... Handling multiple cups or needing more refills is additional friction discouraging the behavior. It makes it a less attractive alternative. You don't have to ban behavior to influence it... Just make it the less desirable path and then only the stubborn mentals will insist on the path...

Wait until you have a family.... You will understand the burden this adds. And double fisting for anyone is more difficult period

Would you seriously walk around carrying 2 cups of water instead of buying or bringing your own?
Given there size, there is not much carrying. Not to mention the availability of trays used to carry meals and associated drinks. But this is still all predicated on discouraging activity that is encouraged by Disney and doesn't harm Disney. If this is about inventory, it means the abuse is on the employee side.

You can't carry both with one hand. Regardless of their size.

As for the trays, I didn't realize we were talking about while at a restaurant.

The cups of water are most easily and readily available at the quick service restaurants. Many people enjoy a beverage with their meal. Where did you think these cups were being distributed from?

Where does Disney encourage it?
This is a passive aggressive change that makes it more difficult for all potential abusers to benefit the same as they did before and hence thin the herd.

Ok then I obviously misread this thread..or at least one of us has.

Having a glass of water with a meal is different than stopping for just water. Speaking for myself, I need water more than just at a meal while walking around a park. I never thought of that while at a quick service location though...to be fair in not a huge tap water fan anyway.

This is what I've been wondering. Where is it advertised? And where do cast members walk up to you and suggest you go get a cup of water?

The most vocal place would be the parking lot tram spiels. Other spiels related to the heat also mention the free water. Even then, there still has been no definition of the "abuse" that is occurring or how it creates any sort of negative. A larger cup of water is not significantly more in cost than the smaller cup, nor is the cost of water eliminated.

Yes, people can and do just stop for water but it still occurs at a food service location equipped with a soda fountain. A meal though is still a scenario that is going to be impacted by this "fix."

1- you assume everyone would just take the extra burden... Many will just say eff it and not do it at all. That's the discouragement effect.
2- heat related spiels? You mean things they would do in certain weather conditions.? Now you are talking about extra ordinary conditions... And I can't ever remember hearing such spiels but I am no guru there.
3- abuse is when something is used in a way it was no intended. Simple enough. If it's being used for theft, or being used as a cost alternative and way to avoid paying for drinks... Then that is abuse of the intended system from the perspective of the company running the system.

If you find yourself handing out more and more water...and its competing with your sold products... That's a leak you want to minimize. Making it less desirable does that.

Most people are not going to order 2-3 cups to replace a large cup. They are going to change their behavior instead.

The spiels talking about heat just occur throughout the year because Florida is hot, they have nothing to do with certain extreme conditions. They are just general information / safety notices. By your criteria, people brining in refillable bottles is an abuse that would need similar curtailing as they are used to steal from the remaining self service fountains and are also used to avoid the costs of purchasing a beverage.

Yes, there are certain times when there are issued heat advisories. They do not occur year round. Maybe that's when you heard these spiels? I can't remember the last time I've been on a tram in the TTC, so I've never heard them. Not on the monorail or on any of the boats.

Bringing in your own reusable water bottle is best. Second best would be bringing your own plastic bottled waters. Why would that be so difficult? Even when I do buy a water I will pour it into my mug to keep it cold. If the argument is that you're already paying high admission prices, then wouldn't your time worth more than standing in line to get multiple cups of water, that you could have already had with you?

I love Jimmy John's, however, as much as I would love to take advantage of their Dollar Day, my time is worth more than standing in line to save $4 on a sub. I'd rather wait 2 minutes and pay $7 next door at Panera, enabling to me to be move on and accomplish more with my day.

Sometimes saving money costs us more than a monetary amount.

I'm not talking about heat advisories, just normal hot days in Florida. Such advice being limited to such advisories would only be worse as Disney is telling people to do something they are discouraging when it is most necessary.

You haven't saved anything unless you never refill your water bottle.

Like I said, I don't have too much experience with the TTC trams, so I don't know what they announce. I do think it's weird that they would require announcements there but not on the launches or monorail.

I can put my bottle in my bag, not carry it around. I can take it out when I want it. That alone is worth not carrying around a plastic cup. I realize that everyone is different though.
