Watch the tropics

For those that will be at Disney next week, or traveling to Disney, please be watchful over the tropics.

Even though there isn't a formed storm yet, there is a disturbance (no, not a disturbance in the force ), but a tropical disturbance....Invest 97.

Note....that all this is very unreliable this far out....but I think people should be aware that there is a possibility (as there always is at the height of hurricane season) of a potential storm later next week.

If you'd like to follow, here's a good page to see the details:
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at201197_model.html

We leave for Disney on Monday 8/22.....and are supposed to be there until Sunday 8/28....so we are watching to see what happens. Wife and I were at the WL in 2004 for Hurricane Jeanne.....parks only closed 1 day for that.

Just thought I'd post to make people aware (especially those travelling around the end of next week).

Remember....weather is unpredictable....that's why take what you see now with caution, but pay attention as we get into Tue/Wed next week.

Thanks. I have been watching for a week now. Pi**ed, but not surprised. We booked 1 yr ago and I said, with my luck, we'll get a hurricane or tropical storm since we are going during the busier part of hurricane season. Right now, the forecast cone is zeroed right in on central Fla. Hopefully it'll be weakened if it does hit us and just be clouds and scattered showers. Fingers crossed! We leave in the morning.

HA....you sound like I've been. About a week before we go I always obsess over the tropics. This time of year is great in Disney.....assuming you don't get a hurricane!

Only thing I keep hoping is the fact that maybe conditions will change and the track will go elsewhere.....hey, I hear Texas needs rain :p

Yep, we need rain but I want to go on my vacation, too. The storm will be part of your vacation memories. Go and have fun. We knew when we booked a cruise & WDW vaca that we were being quite optimistic. We've spent more than 1 anniversary cleaning up after hurricanes. The way we see it, if a storm comes we can't stop it. It'd certainly make the trip memorable. Even if we go on the cruise & there's a storm out there, so be it. It'll be interesting to say the least.

We'll try to make the best of it. After looking just now....looks like we have Tropical Storm Irene.....so everyone be on the lookout and stay safe!

It is so far out right now that my guess would be almost as accurate as the experts. I wouldn't worry about it - just plan on going and having a fun vacation.

I'm not going to pay much attention until Tuesday or so, and I have to prepare if it's heading my way. ;)

I'm going end of August.

Hey, as long as I'm not in the middle of the storm - where it gets dangerous - I'm fine with heavy rain and strong winds.

I live in drab Northern Europe, so I'm perfectly fine with feeling I'm in the subtropics in Florida. Bring it on baby! :D

Hope everybody will have fun the next few weeks and that nobody will get hurt in case WDW does get hit!

Orlando is inland which is a very good thing. Water -a la Katrina, Camille,etc.- is the baddie. Sometimes, very seldom, you get a terrible windstorm, like Andrew.By the time a storm reaches Orlando, the winds have dissipated. Once a storm hits land, it begins to lose substance. Y'all have fun!!! If I have to go through a hurricane, better at Disney World than anywhere else.

Yes, I should pay attention to "The Mom's" words of wisdom and not pay attention to the forecasts yet, but.... Hurricane Irene's projected track is starting to head east. See http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at201109_5day.html

This also means it's projected to get stronger as the storm will be centered over warm water. I'm bummed because I'm scheduled to fly into MCO on Friday at 2 PM.

How strong do the winds have to be before they start canceling flights?

Doesn't this just figure. I guess this is the price I pay for booking free dining. We are set to arrive Thursday morning. All I need a break in the weather for us to fly in, just get me to Orlando, and we'll make a great trip out of what we are given weather wise. The bad thing is, we always get Waterpark Fun and More option so that may be a little problematic but there is always the No Expiration option. Last year at MK we caught the tail end of a tropical depression and it poured all day long, we still had fun, just a little wet.

I'm flying out of Providence (hopefully) at 5:25 pm Friday and landing in Orlando at 8:20 pm. I'm putting in my request right now that Irene keeps going east/northeast and doesn't impact any land!

Well the east track is looking better, although that also means a stronger storm. Here's hoping it keeps curving and misses the U.S. completely.

We just arrived today a the Poly. Man, it is HOT. SUN IS BRUTAL ;-)

We usually come 2nd week of September, and while that is usually hot, today felt worse. Still having a blast. Crowds at the MK weren't too bad.

Anyone traveling at the end of the week (we leave Sunday so hopefully we get out).....travel safe.

Looks to be getting much stronger. Current path has it as a Cat 4 off the coast of FL at about Orlando's latitude. Then, hitting around NC/SC border as a Cat 3. Now, it will be on top of me as a Cat 3 early Sunday morning :)

We're flyin out of Syracuse on Thursday and are hoping to beat the storm before it reaches the Orlando area. Hopefully by Saturday, the storm will have move off so you'll have a good flight down. See you there!

Yes, it looks like it shifted more easterly which means there will be no effects on MCO. You all should be fine.

It could be worse. A co-worker went through it in Puerto Rico, has to leave a day early to fly back to get hit by it again in NC.
