Was Cinderella's Castle bigger or smaller than you thought?

When you first saw Cinderella's Castle did it appear bigger or smaller than you pictured it to be?

I ask this because a neighbour and I were talking and he stated that when they first went to MK his wife cried when she saw the Castle based on how beautiful it was. He said he thought the Castle was too small. Granted it is bigger than the one in Disneyland but in your opinion was it what you expected?

Not old, just vintage.
The first time I saw the castle I was only 5 so of course I thought it was huge. Even though I'm an adult now the castle still looks tall enough to me.

Saw it in March 2005 for the first time at the ripe old age of 34 and thought it was larger than life. It just looks so good when you are walking down Main Street USA! Perfect size in my opinion!!!

What was he expecting, the Sears tower or something?

I don't think it was bigger or smaller than I expected. I was just the size I dreamed it would be! Still is, hahaha.

Yeah, same here. I have to admit, though, after growing up seeing Cinderella's Castle, I was shocked the first time I saw pictures of the castle in DL, and how small it is.

Definitely bigger. Being on the West coast, it was easier for us to get to DL (and cheaper) so I got used to seeing that castle. When I did get to WDW and saw the size of the castle there, it was a pretty big change from what I was used to at DL.

First time I saw Cinderella's Castle, it was truly breathtaking (and still is). It was a lot bigger then I expected, because I've been to DLR so many times, so I'm use to the tiny castle there.

I've grown up with the castle, so I don't remember ever being shocked by the size of it. However now I've been to Disneyland about 25 times in a row, so I know that the next time I go to MK the castle is going to look humungous to me.

I remember being a kid on the monorail, seeing the castle rising out of the swamp between TTC and the park entrance - it has always seemed just the right size to me.

The first time I saw the castle I was 4 and one of the few things I vividly remember is walking through it for the first time and seeing the mosaic which to me just looked magical.

Now, the first time I went to DL I was 25 and yeah, that thing looked small.

When we first went to WDW, for the very first time, back in the '70's we drove.
I expected to see the castle sticking up prominently in the landscape as soon as we got within five or so miles of WDW.

My wife as well thought it was a good size. People assume that you can see it driving in the Orlando area but of course we know you can't. Even when we went to MK and we parked she was looking for it. I told her we wouldn't be able to see it until we are halfway thru the monorail ride. It's hard to believe, but you are still 1.5 miles away from the park entrance when you board the ferry/monorail

Hard to say. As an adult, I do find myself noticing that it is a lot shorter than it "appears" to be because I am able to see how they used the forced perspective. Even my little brother, who knows nothing about this architectural technique, said on our last trip as we walked by the castle "Disney is good at making things look bigger than they actually are".

That said, I do prefer the overall taller stature of the castle at WDW as opposed to DL. It fits and reminds me of seeing some of the German castles from my last overseas trip.
