News Walt Disney World's COVID-19 reopening plans announced - July 11

I think a lot of schools have contingency plans for distance learning but I can’t see how that’s justified now. Back when the country was discussing a slow and steady reopening with a phased approach if we hadn‘t reached the phase that would allow full schools by Aug/Sep then it was possible schools wouldn’t be able to go back. That phased plan has been tossed out the window in a lot of states. Pretty much everything is opening now and whatever hasn’t opened will definitely be open by August. Unless there’s some second wave starting I can’t see how any state could justify opening theme Parks and concert venues in June but saying school isn’t safe in August.
Our Oktoberfest has been cancelled already, so our county may be more cautious than many are expecting. It was definitely a surprise to hear about.

Well I'm not about to pay the extra cost for park hopping with the outside possibility they may allow us to do it. I would think if the official word from Disney is no park hopping that they would have to refund everyone's park hopping fees prior to their trips. Disney will have to make a firm statement one way or the other before July 11th if park hopping is an option in any form.
When the system opens they will let you know one way or the other if park hopping is allowed. If it’s not the money will be refunded. If it is there’s a good chance you won’t be allowed to book a reservation for multiple parks per day so it will be on an as capacity is available basis on the day of. If people don’t want to pay extra for park hopping without a guarantee they can hop to any park then they don’t have to. It’s like Steve said this isn‘t going to be the Disney experience we are all accustomed to. As another poster pointed out earlier the parks all close early and there’s no nighttime shows so park hopping will really be reduced anyway with the one exception of hopping to EPCOT for dinner since that the one park open later. EPCOT is huge and has tons of capacity. It will likely never “sell out”. What will probably be the main issue with hopping is starting somewhere else and trying to hop to DHS. That park could hit capacity more quickly.

Thanks for the replies. We are scheduled to go 2nd week of August. With the reduced operating hours, the no park hopping is not a huge deal, as only Epcot is open 'late'.

We are staying at beach club, and we were hoping that we could visit whichever reserved park during the day and then walk over to Epcot for dinner in the evenings.

Guess we will know soon enough.
No pool at Beach Club though, right?

We don’t know that yet. The main pool is closed in June when only BCV is open and not the hotel. We still don’t even know for sure YC or BC hotels are opening July 11. If only one opens and with some floors or wings closed it’s possible the main pool stays closed. It is more expensive to operate and maintain and they have a quiet pool they could use.

Can they allow hotel guests to use that pool? I thought because it’s paid for by DVC maintenance fees it’s not available to hotel cash guests.
The distinction between the "hotel" side of a resort and the "villa" side of a resort is meant to be invisible to cash guests. If you're staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, broadly defined, you have access to the facilities at both Jambo House and Kidani Village. Some people tried to argue a while back that the Boulder Ridge pool was supposed to be off limits to cash Wilderness Lodge guests, but that's absolutely not the case.

I didn’t even think of that.
It's not correct. There is no such thing as a "DVC pool." Cash guests of a resort have access to the recreation facilities at the entire resort.

EDIT: I was corrected below, as it appears that this is the case at Bay Lake Tower. I don't believe it is the case anywhere else.

... those that aren't OK with that really need to consider if they should be visiting until things return to normal.
They will refund you. I'm pretty confident about that from when my husband talked to a CM who said that they would likely issue refunds *if* they end park hopping.

What gets me is unless you're an AP you really have no skin in the game. Oh you have a room reservation? ADR? DVC? You can just cancel (or bank or sell or rent). But AP's cannot get a real refund or even sell them. I'm hoping that changes. Lucky for us we only have 2 silvers, but imagine families with $5000 in AP's - no refund? What do you do in that situation? Just not go?

Not true. The Bay Lake Tower pool is exclusive to guests staying there. If you are staying at CR you aren’t eligible to use it. I know that for sure. I was asking about BCV because I wasn’t sure if that was the case there too. It’s not consistent between resorts.

Good catch, you're right. If you look up images of the resort maps, the Contemporary's is very clear that all BLT facilities are exclusive to BLT. It almost reads as if they don't even want non-DVC people walking on the grounds (not that they have much in the way of grounds to begin with). They appear to be unique in that regard.

Well, they've already said AP holders can elect to get a refund of their pass if they want. But if they follow the same rules that they did for Shanghai, AP holders will be able to use their pass with a free reservation when the parks re-open in a limited capacity, but the expiration date will still be extended until the restrictions are lifted. Granted I haven't seen them *say* this yet, but I'd expect something similar here since the tickets will be so limited use (and they've said that AP holders may not be able to get in). Doing that seems to make a lot of sense to build goodwill for those (presumably) loyal guests.

Didn’t they offer refunds for annual pass holders? I think the only people on the hook are DVC owners. You can delay a certain amount of time depending on your use year but you cannot cancel without losing points.

We’re holding on to our August booking, and we may have to add a person coming with us.

I just wish there were some idea of what can and can’t be done with reservations.
