I was disagreeing with your “sheltered teenagers” edit, which is often part of the religious argument. If that wasn’t your intent then I apologize. I meant to speak more generally and not directly at you with the rest of my post.
I think he was talking about teenagers in general, many of whom are more sheltered from unsupervised social interactions than their parents were.

They only have 4 actual events at WDW now: Marathon in Jan, Princess in Feb, Star Wars in April and W&D in Nov. One even in Paris in Sept and then some virtual races throughout the year. So yeah, quite a few months without a runDisney event.
So, can we expect a replacement event, called "Night of Running Joy"?

Anyone who has ever had to work one of these events, or the high school graduate event they used to do, or GradBash at Universal, will tell you that these are the absolute worst days to work because the kids are ridiculously out of line and out of control. For those reasons alone I can see them wanting to cancel it. I doubt it's about money, I'm sure it makes a huge profit.

It really is easy to see why this event was canceled. It has nothing to do with it being a Christian themed event. The reason it was canceled was the event was costing Disney more than they were willing to pay for it. Each year Disney was having to negotiate with the performers to perform and like everything else ended up costing more than previous years. Also the number of comped tickets to youth groups had increased resulting in hundreds of kids with a handful of chaperones. In the end It's much easier for Disney to just run Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party earlier.
