I don’t disagree, but if Disney is going to be open and allow guests to book a room for NYE I’m assuming people are expecting something to do at midnight.

Buy some champagne for the room?

I think Dhalia at GDT is open until midnight, perhaps that will be the most popular spot in Disney on NYE this year!

I assume the people know what is or what isn't happening, made their decision, and don't need me to worry about them.
Assuming every person going to WDW on NYE religiously follows all these updates like some of the people here I would agree. I don’t think every guest is that way. I would not be surprised at all if many people are assuming there will be NYE activity somewhere at WDW. Nobody said they needed you to worry about anything.

Of course they will...because a toddler needs their limits imposed on them.

A certain state is now tettering on the cliff...local municipalities can’t respond because of state law...but a certain bloated hole won’t return phone calls now.

Anyway...I’m worried about the crowd. For everyone that said Disney can’t fail in control and there’s been “no spread” from parks...this plan is a good way to test those limits.

Maybe playing devils advocate a little here, but if it’s safe to have a castle projection show and brief bursts of fireworks at 6PM or 10PM is it that much less safe at midnight? I can see maybe not wanting to attract a bunch of people to MK just for the countdown to midnight. It’s probably best to do at the resorts which can be more secure.

At this point it has nothing to do with safety anymore. They are trying to squeeze as many people in as possible. Why else would they raise capacity? Queues are already spilling out to walkways and social distancing isn't happening in many places.

Neither is a good idea. What’s disheartening is “the company” is starting to follow the leads of the state they’re in...which is not the wise path.

Very concerning. Just not a good idea.

There will be the expected stragglers like usual but none riders will be encouraged to start exiting at 2300.

Cue? As in snooker?
Lol. Someone needs to invent a theme park vocabulary update for iPhones! For me it would be cue as in a lighting cue!

How many lighting cues are in the queue?
That’s the Q, what’s the A?

This will be the first year since 2004 that I didn’t spend New Years at Disney World. Gonna be weird! Such is 2020.

New Years Day is indeed a stupid holiday it is over, literally the second it begins. It’s the hangover of the holiday season, that moment when you realize, crap it’s January again.
In normal times I agree....this year, I think the end of 2020 is really something to celebrate. 🎊🥳💥🤪🥳🤩 More than any other year I can remember 2021 really is A New Hope on multiple levels

So Florida’s taken the stance of... what we don’t know won’t hurt us? Not contact tracing is just... crazy.
I think it's more that they were never funded adequately and they left it up to local health departments which were critically understaffed. Apparently the state funding is set to completely disappear at the end of today. But yes, in effect they do not contact trace.

The governor literally had a press conference today and signed an executive order mandating schools stay open the rest of the year, banning local government mask mandates (private business can still enforce/trespass) , and stating that businesses must remain open at all costs (I believe that's damn near a quote).

In all fairness, their intent seems to be to keep businesses open. It's just they seem to see it as a choice: be safe OR keep businesses open. I think many states have successfully done both (at least to some degree)

I guess WDW won't close again...

Edit: link to story about governor's executive orders

I will celebrate turning over a new leaf, one week after I get my second vaccine shot. That will likely not happen until after January 1st. There is also obviously a once every four year holiday later that month that will also cause me to celebrate. New Years itself though remains stupid and pointless.
