Planning on running one of the races, either 10k or Half. Are the courses for both races similar to the same ones during other race weekends?

My understanding it that they try to use different courses. My son has run the Darkside Half Marathon and the
course is completely different than the Half Marathon run in January.

Pretty much the same as Princess. They have used them before for other events, but they have been trying to change it up some lately.

Well I think its a given that in 2020, the course of the Star Wars races will change routes and finish in Galaxy's Edge.
Don't bet on it. The issue there will be the same as was explained for January marathon not going through Pandora...the attractions themselves are too popular and therefore too crowded to add an extra level of complication by having runners try to go through those areas. Disappointing, but understandable. I'd like to see the Dark Side half become a night race and at least have the course go through Galaxy's Edge. I don't believe any of the parks has the space to have a race finish inside, even if it's after hours. The setup for something of that scale is too involved.

Uhm... dark side is running through Pandora this year...
I did not see that. That's doable because the runners will be clear of the park prior to opening, similar to how MK is when the course starts at Epcot. For the January full, they could not have runners going through there while the park was open.

DAK is between Miles 4 and 5. All runners should be through before park opening, even if they don't start until 7:00 am. Park doesn't open until 9:00 am that morning.

Agreed. There was a year Everest finished in Dino Land below the large yellow dinosaur and it was MOBBED!!
The Tower races used to end backstage by the Tower and Coaster and it was MOBBED.

And I am an early finisher!! With spectators, finishers, and the runDisney set up, finishing within a Park is a nightmare....and that comes from a runner!

I remember those! Then there was the ill-fated inaugural W&D finish by the International Gateway entrance. I’ll never forget that chaotic scene of trying to get through World ShowPlace. The bag check area was a complete cluster (I think they had misplaced a bunch of bags), and it took forever to get around the tired, irate runners who wanted their dry clothes. I guess it was more convenient for the after party, but I just wanted to get out and go home!

I think it was the second or third year, they ended the race by the bus loops - that was also a bizarre finish. Very few spectators and it was such a hike back to the car. They were very smart moving it to the Imagine lot.

The 2017 DLP runs ended inside the park. It wasnt that small to label it mobbed, but it was far from great.

It's a wonderfull PR statement to 'finish inside the park, or finish at this attraction'. However, it wont work well for practical reasons

Guess this means early registration for 2019 Marathon weekend won't be opening Thursday.....

Interesting it mentions 2018 races - 2018 W&D registration is already open.
