Out of curiosity, what country are you from? I ask because there are A LOT of countries that have those things in their past.

Second, at what point is the past the past? It can't be changed. Why should I be punished or have to compensate people in 2023 for acts committed before my ancestors arrived in the USA?

If we are ever to "all just get along" as Rodney King said, at some point we have to accept that we are where we are and we just need to move forward.

That's not what I asked.

I know that but you asked it in the context of how immoral these things are with the insinuation that the USA is currently evil because these immoral things occurred in the past.
If people are gonna whatabout with Disney and the CCP, I reserve the right to question where their morality is on their own country's previous - AND CURRENT - moral issues.

Your ancestors ate from the tree of knowledge, despite God commanding them not to, therefore, you must be just as morally bankrupt as they were.

Our shared ancestors, if you believe.

I am of the opinion that the Musk "behavior" that Disney actually has an issue with is his opinions about gender transition of minors.
X is terrible for advertisers and Musk has said, agreed with and supported a lot of hateful things over the years but it has been much worse of late. You look at that in total, as a public company like Disney, and it isn't hard to make the decision to leave. Hence why Disney, Apple, IBM, etc. walked away.

It was never just one thing, endorsing a VERY well know white supremacist theory was just the final straw but even then most said they were pausing ad buys, not banning. However, Musk in a truly business savvy move that didn't at all come across like someone who only knows how to get his way throwing a tantrum, told them all to "F off". Don't know about where you work but I haven't had great luck with telling my customers to F off.

Honestly, I am surprised Disney held on as long as they did.

I’m sure everyone is in a rush to cancel their Netflix subscription now right ?

Well at least 12 people are, no one else cares.

Disney will be back on twitter soon enough.

Then we can close this thread that was started solely to enjoy open season on a hated figure of the left.
Probably not, but I also doubt anyone will he in a rush to get a subscription to Netflix because of the advertisements, which is REALLY why disney and others stopped.

X was a poor ROI for advertisers before any of this so why would they go back now?

You run a business, if you spent money on advertising with a particular source and saw minimal engagement and low return would you keep going? What if the company told you to f off when you decided to pause ad spends? I don't know about you but belligerent and a waste of money doesn't endear a vendor to me or make me want to use their services again.

So it’s a good ROI for Netflix but not D+?

As I've said, it's not uncommon for media agencies to include X/twitter as a value-added freebie when selling you fb/yt/ig ad space. It's like getting free tire locks when buying a car.

I doubt that they're paying anything for it.

Beyond that, Disney and Netflix have a very different customer profile (that's not to say that there isn't overlap), and Disney also has one of the best customer data teams in corporate America -not many companies know their customers better than Disney. I'll argue that the people complaining about Disney leaving X/twitter are a small and loud minority in a group mostly of people that don't care or support Disney doing this.

Why Netflix decided to come back, who knows? Maybe they think it is worth the gamble in case X turns it around. Maybe they took advantage of the current situation and demanded or somehow received decreased fees making the ROI a no brainer while they ride it out (that is the route I would take if I was thinking of continuing with X). Maybe they came back but cut their spend while waiting to see what happens.

Here is what we do know, X has been losing advertising dollars all year (long before this current mess). They were over a billion a quarter in ad revenue last year while this year they are barely cracking 600 million. There weren't many big companies leaving but they were cutting ad spend to a level that made sense based on the limited returns they were seeing. The most resent outburst and continued support and promotion of ridiculous conspiracy theories is going to make a lot of those companies think twice about coming back and even if they do, it will likely be at lower levels than before.

I know a lot of people think he is going to somehow turn this around and sure, anything is possible, but X was already on a path to bankruptcy before this incident, all this did was accelerate that process.

Looks like Elon decided to get petty.

So a company whose theme parks attract over 100 million globally each year, vs an automaker that's sold about 5 million cars in its existence: who will win?
