Walt Disney board extends Iger's contract as Chairman and CEO through June 2018

Marvel could of existed outside of Disney and would of made the same amount

This I don't agree with. I think Disney's marketing and promotion of the MCU has been stellar and Marvel could not have done nearly as well on its own. They might have made the same exact films, but they wouldn't have been as successful.

...well, if they're not gonna add any new rides and/or attractions, they might as well pretty up the place, like the astro orbiters and people mover.

By 2018, the entire resort should be decked out in new paint schemes and still have construction walls up everywhere with nothing quite open yet.

I'm assuming Iger is holding out for shanghai to open, pandora to open, and at least a few expansions to be named and in the works. Maybe a boutique third park in Anaheim featuring marvel. I just can't see them not doing anything with that brand, in terms of usage in parks. Especially since Iger made that deal.

I doubt Iger sticking around has anything to do with the parks. He's a media guy.

They would of been as successful on their own ... but the real question when the superhero genre runs out of steam like pirate films and cowboy films, TWDC will be in some big DooDoo and Iger will be nowhere to see.

I'm not so sure about that. Paramount probably would have just continued to distribute and market them as they had started with the first Thor and Iron Man and I doubt they would have done a worse, or really different, job at this than Disney.

Did I mention the company under his watch has grown in value from just under 50 billion to 150 billion? You guys can hate the man all you want, its pointless and without merit, but hes the best CEO in America for a reason. He deserves his success.
Under Iger, Disney has repurchased a tad over 1 billion shares of Disney stock, worth a bit over $88 billion at today's closing price.

Perhaps that has more than a bit to do with Disney's current market cap? :D

Iger is good for the current stock holders and for the company in general (though there are potential long-term problems). However, it has clearly been demonstrated that Iger is very bad for Parks & resorts, which is the division of The Walt Disney Company we are primarily concerned with here.

Why? Let Iger's failures with the parks speak for themselves; Disney has plenty of people - and fanboys - eager to spin things and defend every little decision.
Because it's just depressing to do otherwise. Disney is my escape and the same is true for many other people too. To think it's the end of the world, Disney is no longer an escape, but something to escape from.

Okay, EC (for example) may fall apart under his continued tenure, but AK will be real cool - a real escape - with Avatar and its new nighttime attractions! NFL could have had more than two D-ticket attractions, but 7DMT is admittedly better than most D-tickets (and it's something DL doesn't have). And Star Wars Land may soon be announced for HS! So, there's still plenty of "escape" left in Disney...

It has directly reduced Disney's market cap by $88 billion. That is the only directly measurable effect on market cap of a stock buyback. All else is market reaction.

Still unresolved is who will replace Iger when he retires in 2018. Sources say, though, that Iger's plan is to name a COO next year and groom the executive for the CEO spot. Disney has been without a COO since Iger was promoted from that spot in 2005.

The likeliest candidates for COO -- and therefore CEO four years from now -- are parks and resorts chairman Thomas Staggs and CFO Jay Rasulo.

We don't know that. When Iger's first became CEO, he said he was putting off plans for WDW's fifth gate in order to expand and refresh the current four. MK got the treatment first with FLE. AK is getting it now with Avatar and the new nighttime attractions. That leaves just HS and EC left. It's possible all four parks will have had major work done before his grand 2018 exit!

So it's just prolonging the inevitable.

Exactly. And do not forget Star Wars. This is great news for fans of that IP. And WDW.

I am more optimistic than ever. In my opinion.

This is such B-S! WDW is not crumbling, nor is Iger trying to bring about its downfall.

People seem to think that Iger, Staggs & Rasulo can just write checks for whatever they please and have it built overnight. Well, that's not how things work in the real world. Sure, it would be nice, but it's not realistic.

But Eisner did exactly that! Frequently he approved stuff, knowing it would pay off to shareholders in the long term, and in fact we're reaping the benefits of his 90s investments to this day.

We're not talking about some mythical approach to building the parks, we're talking about actual, historical practice that used to happen. If you don't believe it, just go back and take a look at some of @ParentsOf4's Parks & Resorts capex investment comparison charts.
