Walt Disney board extends Iger's contract as Chairman and CEO through June 2018

Sorry to branch a little off topic, but do you think the DHS announcement will be made soon? Giving Iger an opportunity to make this announcement himself or something? This kind of expansion feels bigger than Staggs would announce. Who made the original announcement for NFL and DCA 2.0?

Rasulo announced NFL (Pixie Hollow version), Staggs announced the Dwarfs coaster, and Iger announced DCA 2.0.

He has been kept on because he has brought in record finanancial results? Well of course he has because he keeps cutting budgets and raising prices. Anyone can do this and it is not a sign of a good leader. :banghead:

Was looking forward to his departure but now I'll have to wait even longer.

I get the impression that regardless of who the CEO is, many here wouldn't like them unless they immediately announced plans to build. 5th gate and add a new E-ticket attraction for all the parks.

As long as they are brought in from outside the current TWDC ecosystem would be fantastic. If it is Alan Horn that is fine. If it is anyone from Strategic Planning well we are in for a rough time.

Nextgen over budget?

I guess they don't think that was as severe as some do. Who knows what the public budget was vs the budget they had behind closed doors. I am not sure the overage was a surprise to them at the end of the day. But if it was it did not overshadow the other things he gets credit for. You know how it goes, top man/woman gets blame and credit regardless if they had a thing to do with either. The business grew under his watch.

Thats total baloney. Just about every acquisition Iger has made will pan out long term and grow the company dramatically. The man is building theme parks while the late to the party competition is building themed areas. Disney films are getting to the point of being constant hits almost every time out. The brand has never been stronger, even when Walt was around he was never this successful.

Short term? Ha, ha. Did I mention the company under his watch has grown in value from just under 50 billion to 150 billion? You guys can hate the man all you want, its pointless and without merit, but hes the best CEO in America for a reason. He deserves his success.
Sometimes I think it is literally Ranch Dressing posting here...

Some positive spin on this:

Jay and Tom are gone, IMO. They were the clear co-frontrunners to replace a guy who's already had two different retirement dates, and the Board (and Bob) apparently couldn't pick either one of them. Total lack of confidence in the pair of them. They have to see the writing on the wall at this point.

The reason WDW was expanded so much during the Eisner years as opposed to the Iger years is because the property was vastly underdeveloped when Eisner took over. He actually wrote a lot about it in his autobiography which I encourage everyone to read, by the time Iger became CEO there no way he could compete with that kind of development.

I actually think the stuff Iger has done with the parks overall are better than Eisner. A lot of the stuff Eisner has been focusing on is re-doing Eisner's F-up's. Hong Kong Disneyland was a joke when it opened, DCA was a joke when it opened, Walt Disney Studios in France is still kind of a joke, you could even say there was very little to see at DHS when it first opened for the huge crowds it was getting. Then you look at some of the other stuff that was built during the late-Eisner era, such as Dino Rama at DAK, and consider how all the food service around the parks were basically decipated in the 90s/early 2000s in favor of high margin items (which WDW has focused on fixing the past decade). Iger has not been adding to the parks nearly as much, but most major things that have been added are way higher quality than what was coming out under Eisner.

I'm also still in the boat that we are about to see major changes not only that we know about (DAK, Downtown Disney) but also to DHS and Epcot. It seems like a lot of people on the boards want Disney to build new rides at every park right at this moment and that's just not going to happen - the realistic scenario is that the company probably does not have nearly enough human capitol to take on all those projects at the same time all over the world and it's being long term planned.

Wasn't NextGen Rasulo's baby primarily? I know he was long gone by the time the bands hit the fan, but the initial greenlighting and conceptual stuff was all his IIRC, then Staggs just rubberstamped it.
