Walls in HM Queue

I still think it would make more sense for guests to enter through the front door instead of the foyer. The "servant's entrance" thing they have going on has always been a little odd IMO. Why would the back door usher you into the elegant foyer and gallery? I realize they couldn't and wouldn't reconfigure things to send guests through the front door, but it would make more sense to me.

I'm thinking (hoping) the changes would all just be more for atmospheric purposes, i.e. a motion sensor from a guest triggers an AA crow to caw and flap its wings, or for bushes to rustle or a ghostly whisper to be heard. All just to add to the (hopefully expanded) graveyard.

We'd have to go back in time to allow the "front door" thing to happen, unfortunately. It can't be done now. The front door of the mansion itself goes into an empty "movie set" essentially. Probably the tops of the stretch rooms, in reality.

I like your ideas about the graveyard though.

From what I gather, we'll be walking through the graveyard instead of past it. That alone sounds better to me.

I like the thought of this.

Wow, that does sound better. And pretty exciting. Especially if we see more cool stuff like Leota's headstone. I've seen people freak when those eyes open - awesome!!!

Through the graveyard sounds very interesting. We just came back last week from our honeymoon trip to Disney. I liked the new staircase scene and the attic scene. Only thing I would change is to have the portraits whos eyes follow you, more visible and eyes still follow you while in the load area.

I have nothing really negative to say about the last rehab. I like what they did. Before we left I snapped pics from the Liberty River boat. You can see the ride building, the grave yard is totally gone. And like I told my wife, in Disney here one day gone the next, and the walls not there one day and there the next.

I do wish they would work in the hatbox ghost. If the can make Leota fly in her crystal ball, they shound be able to make the hat box ghost work by now. Yes replace the courtyard with a cemetary. It seems like the fright factor is a non issue nowadays since people have become desensitized with all the IMHO disgusting horror flicks that now fill theaters.

I've always been amazed by the elaborate setting and grounds for Phantom Manor, and lamented the WDW Haunted Mansion is so hemmed in they couldn't do something similar. It seems perhaps they're trying to use what little room for expansion they have to do something along those lines, which I'm really happy about.

Disney gets a lot of flack for trying to get by on the bare minimum of upkeep, and I agree they should be doing so much more, but it's good to see the plussing for the sake of plussing going on at Haunted Mansion. Maybe this concept will catch on throughout Walt Disney World.

He's already been built; they've just delayed the installation, presumably holding off till the new HM movie comes out.

No, I don't think so. From the description, they're only widening the queue area near the door. They're just pushing the brick wall back a foot or two into where the graveyard was.

Which could take a long freaking time. Years. They just announced that Disney is doing the movie and if it's animated or as complex as other Del Toro flicks I've seen, Hatty's gonna get dusty.

It's far more than that.

You've taken my words out of context.

From the initial report:

"First up will be the addition of some interactive features, similar to those tested a few months ago at the Mansion. Secondly, the queue will be reworked to allow wheelchairs to pass through the regular queue. As part of the upgrades, the queue will be extended slightly into the graveyard area and near to the water."

So - like I said: they're widening the queue area into where the old graveyard was, moving the brick wall back. No walk-through graveyard as "The Duck" had suggested. That was the only part of this rehab I was referring to.

If you know "far more", then do please share it with the class.

The latest rumor is he's coming back in January after the HMH take-down. I'll believe it when I see it, whether it be January or a year from January.

I took this picture Saturday from Tom Sawyer Island. You can see straight back to the show building if you're at the right angle.

My BF and I are going to WDW in late February, and I'll keep an eye out for the sorely missed Hatbox Ghost. I can't wait to see if he's there. I really hope so, since I've heard nothing but good stuff and seen only fabulous pics of him. I hope Del Toro gives us the movie we've been dreaming of, and not another epic Eddie Murphy travesty.

*Fingers crossed*

I don't think you need to worry, Fable. Judging by his previous work, I'm sure he can create a good, grown-up tribute to HM. It ain't like we've got Shamalan working on it:lol:

The coffin occupant has always been X Atencio. That audio has never changed as far as I know...

Gerry - There's been some discussion (mainly on another website) that it may actually be Dallas McKennon who provided the voice of the Conservatory coffin occupant and not X at all. Although the jury's definately still out on that...

It is definitely X's voice in the coffin. Dal's recording is believed to be the slowed-down version heard on "The Story and Song from The Haunted Mansion" Lp. When sped up to normal, it sounds very much like Dal McKennon.

Like I said, Disney filed for a patent for a system that would transfer special vehicles on and off the chain at-speed.

If you want to take a look at it, here ya go:

Ah, thanks for the link. The point I didn't get the first time is that it's not an arbitrary mechanism for removing vehicles from the chain and adding them again, which seemed miraculous. There is a special removable car that functions like a convertible baby car seat, leaving the base of the vehicle and its place in the chain. And so the removable car can only go into that one spot, which presumably means anyone loading there is going to have to wait through one right cycle to get back into the chain. Still, it's a very cool idea.
