Walls in HM Queue

After recreating the late Paul Frees' "Ghost Host" for Disneyland's "Haunted Mansion Holiday" attraction, Corey [Burton] was approached to record a new safety spiel for the begining of the ride. He only agreed to do it as long as it was an addition and didn't replace any of Paul Frees' original dialogue (of which he is a big fan). This was not the case so he declined. The spiel was instead recorded by voice actor Joe Leahy.

Here's Haunted Mansion Holiday by Corey Burton on YouTube.

Here's the new safety spiel at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. It sound like the same voice as WDW ride stop spiel. (I've stated the clip part way though, the first voice is Joe Leahy. Paul Free's returns at 4:35)

I was at MK on Monday and took this pic from the BTM exit. It looks like they have cleared out a lot of trees and brush from other pics I have seen, but correct me if i am wrong.

Seeing the Mansion like that tears me up...I hope everything is completed by my trip in late February, since the attraction is pretty much the reason for the trip in the first place.

I also hope that the graveyard(s) will still exist in some form, since my boyfriend has never been to WDW and my HM pics show Master Gracey and Madame Leota's stones. I just want to be able to ride over and over and hopefully this new interactive line queue will not ruin the exterior of the ride or the experience itself.

A few months ago, Disney filed a patent for a system to allow for "off-line" loading of Omnimover vehicles (similar to how the special vehicle on Midway Mania pulls off to the side for handicap loading). It would allow the ride mechanism to remove a special car from the chain of vehicles (leaving a "carrier" of some sort as part of the chain) while the ride was still moving (or possibly put in "creep" mode during the transfer)

This car would then park to the side, where a handicap Guest could take as long as they needed to load into the car. It would then be added back into the chain of vehicles at the appropriate time. All of this with little-to-no impact in the experience of the other Guests.

Do they not have something like this implemented on TSMM? When we were there last month we saw people loading into a vehicle off to the side of the main track and then loaded into the ride track along with the other vehicles..

I saw it from the island and there is a lot of brush cleared also there is equipment higher up on the hill beyond your pic. I wish I thought about taking one while I was there.

This whole "new queue" thing better help the ride and not hinder it. Maybe it will help the line move faster...just want to ride it and be able to enjoy the spooky atmosphere of the exterior.

Also, why in the world would they do this right before Halloween? Isn't that the prime time for Mansion riding? This may have been a poor choice.

The mansion will be just fine when it's all done. It's just a new queue with some fun things to do or look at, and wider paths to allow wheelchairs to come through.

Right now, the only difference you'll notice when in the queue is that you can't look out at the river or yard outside the queue. It's actually causing very little disruption to the guests, for now.

This discussion of the wheelchair/handicap access just brought to the front of my mind one of the patents that Disney filed for over the summer, and got me thinking that this queue reconfiguration might be the precursor to implementing it....

I just don't see how that can could be retrofitted on the existing Omnimover system. Midway mania is a collection of self-propelled cars. Allowing one to separate off the main track is nontrivial, but ultimately it's just a question of getting the timing right. The haunted mansion, in contrast, is one continuous train of vehicles. I'm not picturing how they could separate one car -- and even if they could, how they could put it back somewhere other than the gap it made were it left?

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. This seems like something that could only be done in a brand new attraction. I still don't see how HM could be made more accessible than it is. I had lunch with an imagineer at brown derby a few years ago -- the imagineer I met was married to the imagineer that was in charge of the last HM rehab (which I really like by the way). Since I use a wheelchair I asked a lot of questions about accessibility. He said his wife told him they worked hard to find a way to make HM more accessible including a special car that would actually load the wheelchair itself, but sadly none really worked. I expect to continue loading at the unload area with a full stop as long as I can. But...I could be surprised I guess. Have fun!

Like I said, Disney filed for a patent for a system that would transfer special vehicles on and off the chain at-speed.

If you want to take a look at it, here ya go:

You can't really speed things up any more than they already do on that attraction. They do an excellent job loading and unloading. If this que is really cool it may distract people. I only fear that you aren't able to enjoy it because the line moves so fast.

Since I often visit in less busy periods, I usually feel like I'm missing all of the best queues because the lines move so fast. Haunted Mansion is an attraction I've rarely spent a lot of time in line for, so even if this new queue is really cool I wonder how often I'll actually get to fully appreciate it.

Not that I'm complaining. It seems like the best of both possibilities. Either the attraction is a walk on, or there is something new and more elaborate to keep me entertained if there is a wait.

Well, one of the most-often said things about the inside of the Mansion is that it is SO detailed that even after dozens of rides you're still finding new details.

Why shouldn't the queue be any different? So what if you don't see everything there is to see the first few times?

I'm just looking forward to seeing the Mansion again in all it's glory. Oh, and seeing my BF's face for the first time when we walk into the Mansion and hear the Ghost Host talk about the stretching portraits.

This whole experience with him will be priceless since he's NEVER been to the park before. It's going to be a great trip.
