Visiting GF from Poly?

Hi,
We will be eating at Ohana this December. I have read here that the Grand Floridian is where they do a big Gingerbread house for the holidays. Since the monorail goes to both resorts, during our Poly visit seems like a good time to visit the Grand Floridian. Can anyone confirm whether it is that easy to go from Poly to GF and back? With my luck, I'd be planning on doing that only to find out that I have to go to the TTC and transfer or something...

Also, can someone confirm that they should be doing the gingerbread thing at GF? Besides "normal" decorations, anything cool that we should look for at Poly?

Thanks!

Monorail is by far the easiest transport between the two - although one way its the next stop and return its the long way round.

Yes GF should have the gingerbread house this year :slurp:

Yeah, you have to ride the whole loop to get back to the Poly from the GF, but it's always a fun trip, that is, unless you know it's going to be a peak crowd time (like after the 3 o'clock parade when morning crowds seem to all leave at once). It's actually also a really nice walk to take between the 2 resorts, you just pass the GF pool and follow signs to the Wedding Pavillion, and the Poly isn't too much further past that point. Have fun!

When we were at the Poly in August, I visited the GF during my family's nap time. I rode the monorail there, looked around, and walked back as the previous poster mentioned. It was a lovely walk, and shorter than I had imagined--maybe ten minutes. I suspect that it would be even more pleasant in December's cool weather!

The giant gingerbread house will be there.
You can't miss it. It's in the lobby.
It's so large that there are people inside it selling little versions of it.

Have fun.
:xmas::xmas:

BTW- There's also a gingerbread house in the CS restaurant attached to the American pavillion in EPCOT but it's not as large as the one at the GF.

Monorail is the fastest way to go from Poly to GF...the fastest way from the GF to the poly is just to go to the Grand Floridian's boat launch because it's next stop is the poly before it returns to the MK.

If you are staying at a WDW hotel, I'd recommend going to GF after dinner, then taking the monorail just one stop to MK to catch the bus back to your resort.

As for travelling between the Poly and GF, if the weather is good, walk if you can. It's pleasant, short, easy, and the views are quite pretty.

GF from the Poly

It is a great walk. If you go at night around the time of the fireworks there is a great beach in between the two with some lounge chairs to sit and watch. The boat is also a great and simple way to make the trek!

When will the Gingerbread house come down? Will it still be up on the 1st?

Hi Most Monorails go to each Poly & GF hotel, just make sure to ask when you board that the monorail you are on will stop at the hotels. Sometimes they bypass them and go straight to the Magic Kingdom, just check you can also check out the Contemporary Hotel too. Contemporary Poly and GF are all stops on most Monorails. :wave:
It will be our first time there next month for the holidays too and we plan on visiting the GF most of all for the gingerbread house.
Enjoy yourselves ok. :sohappy::xmas:

Definately take the walking path, some people think its rather long, but its not. There is never anyone walking on it either... it is AWKWARD though if you walk through the path if there's a wedding at the pavillion...lol... but its a free country, shouldn't have built the walking path through the pavillion!

Plus you get to see all the Japanese married couples names on the stones near the wedding pavillion...

We went last year just before Christmas and stayed at the Poly. We really enjoyed the boat ride.

You could take the monorail to GF after dinner at Ohana which is the next stop and then take the boat back from GF to Poly as it is the next stop on the way to MK.

The Express monorail only stops at the TTC and MK. The Resort monorail stops at the MK, Contemporarary, TTC, Poly, GF and back to the MK.

They're not all Japanese. There is at least one American one that I know of.:wave: Namely mine. Kidding aside, there are a lot of Japanese ones, aren't there?
