'Villains Unleashed' hard ticketed event coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in August

There's a difference between safe for kids and safe for pre-schoolers. I would like to think Disney could get away with some things being safe for normal 10 year olds, but "intense" for 3 year olds (who might find, say, any kind of loud noise intense).

There are ratings between G and R.

I have been thinking about this more then it probably warrants, but a couple of things popped into my head, maybe you have an answer or two for me.

1. Since this is a one night event, how much does it cost Disney to produce? With an event like MNSSHP they can spread the entertainment costs over multiple parties to decrease per night expenditure. But for a one night party, they need to take entertainment CMs and train them and rehearse, and build sets and costumes, all for one evening. So the cost must be higher. Which is maybe why they sold unlimited tickets?

2. Why is this only one night? Why not run this from say, now, till the end of September once a week? Spread out the costs, lower the guest cap to a more reasonable number, and have more, happier customers?

Yeah. They could hold it on non-MNSSHP nights.

It has a dark atmosphere, it's implied that an audience member meets a horrible fate off stage, and some of the female magician performers show a bit of leg and have rather sensual choreography.

Hear hear!

Ever see Hunchback of Notre Dame? Ride Alien Encounter? Go to Pleasure Island back in it's hey day? Disney can be edgy and risqué too, and do it very well! It's not like there's some law saying it's impossible for Disney to be.

It's been said many times on these forums, Disney has SOMETHING for everyone and not EVERYTHING for everyone.

Pirates ransacking a village have what to do with Disney? Ghosts in a haunted house have what to do with Disney?

Cool show, should have more warnings for small kids... Just saying. :)

Let's be clear, they didn't add a thing. They cut a mix & mingle show so the villains could go upstairs and meet the dessert party guests

Just as bad. Cut "free" entertainment (i.e. within the context of a separately priced ticket) and replace it for $99.

What part of "Villains" screams "family entertainment?"

These are the bad guys. They kill puppies for their fur. They live in your nightmares. They're portrayed by Angelina Jolie in skintight leather and.... None of this says "bring yo kids."

Tired of dumbing stuff down for people who just don't get it.

In a lot of ways I agree with you, but what I do not get is why they would sell child price tickets. I just think an easy way to let folks know it is an event at Disney NOT geared for children is to not offer a child's ticket.

Can someone tell me what's so "risque" about the Oogie Boogie show? No desire to sit through a video.

I watched the whole video and still don't understand what is risque about it. I don't think I'd have any problems having my youngish children see it. I mean, they might get scared due to the general ambiance and I don't think they'd enjoy it, but I don't see anything there that makes me think "I'd be ed if my children saw that".

From the amount of complaining, I was expecting so much worse. I think Disney could appropriately go more dark at a Villains event.

That a fact? Tell that to this guy.

Frollo didn't strike me as a laugh riot, either.

TBH he always reminded me of a knock off Skeletor so take with that what you want...

Knock-off or no, he's voiced by John Hurt and wants to raise an army of the dead to conquer the living, making him the most METAL Disney villain ever. Seriously, listen to this...

Meanwhile, Skeletor got all sappy when some adorable orphans showed up in Eternia at Christmastime, which is an Epic Evil Overlord FAIL.

Sounds typical. Some improvements, good fireworks and entertainment but -poor overall planning of the event.

I enjoyed the Freaky Funhouse show and am not sure how it's all that bad. LOL. Really? And I'm also tired of everything needing to appeal to a 2-5 year old who likely doesn't understand that much. I never once would have thought of that event as geared towards children. It's called common sense, IMO. Although I agree they shouldn't have been selling kids tickets (but again, cash grab, they don't care), which then makes it confusing to parents. I get it. But still ...

I hope they try this again, more refined and tight and better run. It looked like an overall nice effort. I wish I had been able to make it but couldn't go.

I did love reading all of the entitled bloggers reviews and twitter rants, after having spent the entire night at the party. Really people?

Heh, I watched the video and lol'd at the thought of people being outraged. They would presumably die at Halloween Horror Nights. Hell, it doesn't even have to be Bill and Teds. Anyone remember that show they had years ago with the clown killing the teens? He took a hammer and slammed it on a kids head then "blood" flew out and splashed the crowd.
