'Villains Unleashed' hard ticketed event coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in August

My other suggestion would be to have a line in place for EVERY character. A big problem was the mix and match of roaming and stationary. If everyone had a line, there would have been a much better dispersion and lines would have moved much faster. I know they didn't really have the space for that, but just a suggestion.

And they don't cut off lines to the houses an hour into the event. In fact, extremely rare for them to shut down the line to a house until 5 minutes before event close, if then.
The difference is houses are constantly moving. M&G's have a very limited capacity, which makes events like this hard to manage.

For the popular M&G they should have done what they do with Mickey at MK, and other popular characters. Have multiple M&G for the same Villain at the same time.
I think if this wasn't a one night thing ( more nights) Then the crowds would have spread out over time, and OPs would learn how to control the crowds by moving set ups and merchandise to distract crowds.

Unfortunately, some of these characters don't have that many costumes created. However, I agree with the characters that have a full inventory, do a room system.

They don't even need to do that. The park is big enough they could have had the regular Maleficent on SOA. They also weren't running many back to back that they could have

Agreed - I think the guest feedback will help shape this if it happens again. I think another show would have been kind of cool - utilizing Premiere for it or moving the Brown Derby show to a bigger venue.

Hades mocking Frozen and Oogie mocking Beauty and the Beast were pretty great.

So, watching all of the videos of the shows from the event, I just gotta say that with the exception of the fireworks, I don't know what people see in this or why they flock to it. It's the same exact shtick they do for Star Wars Weekends and most other events.

A DJ! Wow! Dance parties! Yay! Special merch and cupcakes! Shows where the entire point is: "get it? they're villains/Star Wars characters and they're DANCING! Laugh at this for 45 minutes!" At least the Oogie Boogie show was a little unique (and risque').

I mean it's gotta be the only place in the world where people will pay additional money to get into a place they (most likely) already have paid admission to for the year so they can spend more money on merchandise made specifically for the event itself! Disney park fans keep flocking to these things like trained dogs, and it's no wonder they have little to no interest in building new quality attractions.

So heres my review that no one asked for:

I was there all day (which is in itself a true test of patience at DHS), and noticed people lining up for things as early as 4pm...except merchandise, of which people were lined up at 2 , which bit them on the butt as without the laminate (which wasn't being distributed at that point), you were not allowed to buy anything once it opened.

The way Disney can fix this event Is to NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO LINE UP BEFORE THE EVENT STARTS. To have lines 3+ hours long at the stroke of 8 was completely short sighted.

Was this year handed better? You bet. Does it still need a LOT of work? More so than most realize.

The Oogie boogie show was incredible. However, they should have put a warning on the park map about it not being for kids. A lot of people got up and left and complained. As an adult, I thought it was very ground breaking for Disney to do a show like that. It shows just maybe they can handle a real scary Halloween party.

The fantastic preshow? I didn't personally see it, but I also didn't hear anybody say it was any good. In fact, everyone I spoke to said it was laughably bad.

Roaming characters? Yes! Big win...A HUGE highlight for me. Was something I wish they would do more often.

Running out of hot dog buns? Really?

And finally..The guardians section. *sigh*. Putting the characters behind a rope? I get it. Not having any ounce of crowd control or order to "meet" them? Aggravating. THREE times that I attempted to get to them (twice I was against the rope), I was shoved and pushed aside by screaming teenage girls hoping to get a selfie with the StarLord because he's "So hot!". It was rude, almost violent at points, and VERY poorly thought out.

A lot of false complaints about them running out of goodie bags by 8:30. I left the park at sweep (1:30ish), and they had TONS left. In fact, they gave me two.

...oh and the lines for rides were really short..a lot of walk ons. This, in my opinion, shows that 99% of the people there were there for the extra offerings and not just a "cheaper ticket".

Every movie makes a profit, eh? No doubt we can look forward to the sequel to The Lone Ranger, then. :hilarious:

I have no hate towards the Muppet; what is your fixation with that? Do you see all of life in terms of black and white? I think they were an ill-considered purchase that hasn't earned its keep and never will, and IMO there's no point in buying a property that has to be propped up all of the time for nostalgia's sake.

I am STILL knocking Frozen as a film; I think it's mediocre and in no way is as good as Lion King or just about any Disney animated feature (with the possible exception of Brave, which I thought was dreadful). But I'm delighted with its success because it's a non-store-bought Disney-generated animated film, and also because it's put WDAS almost on a par with Pixar, which I feared would never happen. So yay for Frozen! I hope it gets a great attraction in MK and that its popularity continues. I hope the same for Big Hero Six, especially since it looks like WDAS has put its own spin on the original material, which is more-or-less in line with Disney's legacy of creativity; the trailer looked fun, at any rate, so I might go see it.

I suppose it's too much to expect that you open your mind and try to see past your narrow views of me, but whatever. If you're hoping I'll put you on ignore so that you can fire away at me and I won't shoot you down, as per usual, well, forget it. I was right about the Muppets' limited appeal and , and if that bugs you, that's not my problem, that's yours. Why don't you just

There have been bigger duds, globally Lone Ranger did take in $260 million.

There was a disclaimer on the sign for the Oogie Boogie show that it may not be suitable for children. It was small, but it was there.

My wife and I ended up with four of the autograph cards and goody bags. We got our merchandise at 11:45 so no, it wasn't sold out. And at that time...we waited all of five minutes.

Didn't see Constantine, Maleficent, or Barbossa...but saw and got pictures of and waited for around all the other character meet-and-greets. Ride times were nothing...absolutely nothing. Saw just about every single "roaming" character and got pics of them. If you asked them, they stopped. Every single time.

As for Guardians, we went in there, stood behind the rope on one side and they greeted us within 15 minutes, talked to us, took pictures with us and then by themselves they posed.

Honestly...I didn't have a problem. Not with a single thing.

If I'm looking to find A problem, it was the lines for alcohol. I don't drink so it wasn't a big deal, but every time we passed one of them...lines were out the wazoo.

Looking forward to the events next year. And yes, I'm AP...and yes, I'll pay more for this event and be happy to do so.

To be fair, the website does say this about Oogie Boogie and there were signs when you walked in (which actually sparked my interest more):
  • Oogie Boogie’s Freaky Funhouse Show – Four showings during the night at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. (Some content may be too intense for young children.)

My favorite thing about this whole Villains Unleashed thing...besides truly enjoying myself the whole night...is the incredible amount of people and sites that show they were at the event all evening. They posted tons of pics and videos and have words of excitement...yet..after the whole night...THEN asked for a refund.

Seems legit.

Yes, it was on the site. Few people actually looked at it. Yes..that is something they SHOULD have researched themselves, but putting it on the map could have avoided a LOT of headaches as well.

I was waiting for your review. Seems like the biggest complaints were about the meet and greets.

And I agree, not letting people lined up for three hours is probably the solution. And having more than one character there to me.

Wow, I just watched Oogie Boogie's fun house video and I LOVED it! Wow, that might be one of the best shows live entertainment at WDW has put on in a LONG time. Dark, creative, not gimmicky at all, and surprisingly pretty edgy too. I also loved how they let the performers really express themselves and do their own thing rather than make them follow strict choreography.

Sadly, I imagine that one or two parent complaints will give TDO a good excuse to shut it down...

No, no, no. Roaming characters popping in and out of various locations was one of this event's highlights. One of WDW's biggest fails is the fact that almost everything must be a highly structured event with a dedicated queue. Let the characters roam!!! Disneyland does it and it's wonderful.
