And for star wars weekend when they do have roaming characters trying to get a picture is next to impossible unless you dont care abouy shoving a small child out of your way... a line is so mugh better
Let's not overdramatize SWW, I've never seen any issues getting a character photo and you can accomplish it much faster than a line.

Why do people prefer roaming characters? When they are roaming they do not stop, in my experience. So you get to see them walk by...which you can also do when they are stationed in an outdoor location for photos. Or is it that they think THEY will be the visitor who stumbles across some character NO ONE ELSE NOTICED and get some unfettered interaction? I guess that's possible, but more likely that you would never see them at all and/or waste all your time wandering around hoping to catch them.

And yes, I have been to Disneyland, where the few "roaming" characters I saw did not stop. People trailed behind them like children (or rats) after the Pied Piper.

I remember roaming characters. And I have vacation pics that include complete strangers to prove it.

The girl with the mouse ears is my sister. No idea who anyone else in the picture is.

I made a point of traveling down for the villains night last year with my wife and adult daughter and I am so glad I did because based upon what we experienced, it would be incredibly surprising if it were ever repeated. I won't say it was awful or the worst but I would never go back without massive changes that Disney would be very unlikely to make.

As @PhotoDave219 mentioned, trying to get a photo with a rare character required a dedication to invest time in the queue to the exclusion of most everything else. Forget getting photos with several rare characters. Forget enjoying the rides and shows if you were determined to get a photo with certain characters. And for the effort of going to a special hard ticketed event, was it unreasonable to think everyone who wanted could get a photo with the Guardians of the Galaxy or Constantine or the Wicked Queen after she became the Old Hag?

The merchandise was ridiculous. Long lines to get into the store. They were sold out once you got inside? Wow, we didn't stand in line to find out!

The shows were provocative, memorable and not your expected Disney fare. Again, glad to have seen them, but would not buy a ticket to see them again.

Don't get me wrong - we had a good time, but the experience was inconsistent with the Disney brand we all recognize. Go back and look at the thread here following last year's event. LOTS of complaints.

At the event I would have been happy to get photos OF the rare characters I don't need to be IN the picture,

Never understood the 'selfie' craze In college a self portrait was a required assignment as I recall I used a 4x5 (posed next to it) and a fill and hair light. and used a mirror to actually take the shot with a 'bulb' release for the shutter.

From what I hear - and this is not limited to Disney parks - requests for autographs of celebrities have largely been replaced by requests for a photo with the person making the request. The time we live in, my friend.

Can you imagine Walt Disney trying to walk through his park back in the late 50s to early 60s if people had owned camera phones like they do today?

No I cannot, We definitely live in the age of narcissism, hopefully we outgrow this as a society soon.

Villains 2K14 was a marked improvement over the 2K13 edition, when all of central Florida showed up because it wasn't a hard ticket.

However, it was still an operational nightmare. There were some positives (Club Villain, for one), but some disasters- the Guardians of the Galaxy mess, 3 hour waits for human Maleficent and Constantine, lack of merch, etc.

I was perhaps most annoyed, however, by the lack of effort/ caring by the turnstiles cast. Not a single barcode on the printed out on your computer tickets was scanned. You simply handed it to them and were granted admission. Made me wonder why I paid for 3 tickets when I could have purchased 1 and printed it 3 times.

Are you serious? Maybe that's why it was "oversold"

I heard from a cast member that night that they were having trouble with the program that they use to scan the tickets. I am glad they decided to accept the tickets without scanning, otherwise we would have had to stand out front. Ugh!
