I disagree wholeheartedly. The whole "the ride starts before you board" concept that Disney has dived into is one of the few elements of modern day imagineering that I absolutely adore

MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

For what it's worth, it was announced in 2015, construction began in 2016, and it was done in 2019.

an entry I read said it was 6 years from first announcement to completion... Possibly they were talking about the first announcement that was completely sent back to the drawing board to start over.....

Even if it was, with this I'd think of it more from shovels to done to get a better timeline. I doubt they wait 2-3 years to start getting things up and running on this. They did say it was underway, though I don't see a more recent image on Google Earth to tell us otherwise.

They said at the end of the D23 panel that everything announced would open in the next 5 years, Villains and Avatar neare probably the latest to open of everything announced (2029?). Galaxy's Edge was officially announced in 2015 and completed by 2019/2020 thanks to Rise of the Resistance's delays so Villains could always open in the next 5 years. If Villains is going the back half of TSI/RoA, foundation work could potentially begin next year too along with Cars

I think the Liberty Belle and TSI are operating through the end of the year.... so, I don't think anything will actually start until after those cease operations..... thenthey will put up the mile of construction walls and begin in earnest.... It is a shame they can't somehow move the mill over to the other side of the river to become a walk-through set piece for Frontierland... save some portions of TSI....

I'm sorry, but we don't talk about Bruno.
They did not say that everything would open in the next 5 years. After recapping everything they showed during the panel including "The New Lands, Attractions, Shows, Ships, and A Whole New Digital Universe" they said "I can't wait for you to see these projects start to come to life over the next five years."
Note that 'start to come to life' is a very deliberately vague statement but that it also includes the cruise ships that during the panel they explicitly said wouldn't be sailing until 2031.
Many of the things they talked about during the panel will open during the next five years I'm sure, but if you think that everything they mentioned will be open by Jan 1st 2030 I'm afraid you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

"If" it opens, it will already be a win for us. My fear is that we will have the same case as Poppins, or Brazil or even Festival Center. One announced and not carried out, and one extremely hyped behind the scenes and not even announced, and the last one completely remodeled. After the backlash with the filling of RoA, anything can happen.

This is a good point and many will counter that a lot of this we're victims of covid. But Disney has a bad history of not doing things they have fully announced that were shovel ready. During the Eisner years with the Disney decade we can add the following announced projects that never happened:
Russia pavilion for World showcase
Switzerland pavilion for World showcase
Baby Herman's baby buggy ride at Hollywood studios
The Muppet movie Ride at Hollywood studios
Mickey's movieland also on Hollywood studios.
I'm sure there's quite a few others that with the passing of time I have forgotten.
The point being that arms and legs falling off of the Epcot " revitalization" project really is not a covid exclusive. It's a pattern with the Walt Disney company. A pattern that's even more damning for anything that is " phase 2".
The dreaded phase 2, almost always a never show, here's looking at you beastly Kingdom at animal Kingdom.
And for that reason I certainly do not expect villains land to become reality. It is that dreaded phase 2.

I wasn’t a big fan of “themed restaurants at the entrance of parks” idea anyways - does anyone still eat at the Rainforest Cafe at DAK?
Now if it had actually gotten built it could have been a cool addition to Downtown Disney.

I actually ate breakfast at that Rainforest Cafe last time I was there, although that wasn't planned. We were just hungry when we got to the park and noticed they served breakfast. It was actually pretty good, too.
I've always been a fan of Rainforest Cafe, though. Kitschy, but in a fun way.

The only difference this time is that with the Disney Decade, they announced 30+ new attractions, hotels and theme parks to open between 1990 and 1999, and the majority of those supposed to open in the first 5 years were built in the decade, if adapted (Toontown, Indiana Jones attraction, New Tomorrowland, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Playground, Splash Mountain @ WDW, The Timekeeper, Alien Encounter, Tower of Terror & Sunset Boulevard, New Orleans French Quarter, Dixie Landings, Wilderness Lodge, DVC, Animal Kingdom, Disneyland 2nd gate)
This time we've had only 5 years announced and 15 projects set to open (Walt Disney animatronic, Coco Boat Ride, Avatar @ DCA, 2 Avengers Campus, Starlight Parade, Cars @ MK, Villains @ MK, Pirate Tavern, Spaceship Earth Lounge, Test Track 3.0, Monsters @ Hollywood Studios, Villain Show @ Hollywood Studios, Tropical Americas, 3D Zootopia Show)
