The mirror effect is the type of thing I absolutely love because it's going to drive me crazy as to how they do it. False walls, and projections built into the door/window/wall makes some sense but the video makes everything look seamless (pun intended). I'm looking forward to seeing this in person and I wonder if it will open before some of the other things.
I went back and replayed part of the video after watching the mirror expand specifically to look for seams because I didn't remember seeing any. It does look completely seamless which definitely made me wonder how it's done too!

Wow!! The mirror effect looked pretty awesome in the previously leaked video, but this just changes everything... I'm speechless.

How on Earth do they do that?

(It's been so long since a Disney attraction has made me say that.)

This is definitely shaping up to be the best part of this whole project. Who knew?

So this won't be open until Nov 19th? Looks pretty much done. Sure hope to see it in late Oct.

The Imagineer in the video stated that they're still installing props and decorations inside the workshop, so they're still not 100% ready. We also don't know what state the Castle hallway after the mirror or the two show rooms are in.

I wonder what happens when something on that mirror breaks and they can't fix it immediately. Do they just leave the door open or shut down the whole attraction? What if it causes too much stress on the fondation of the cottage and they have to shut it down, will they have stobe lights on the door way.

There's one in every thread...

I guess its OK to say how the mirror effect is done:

There are several moving "walls".

1. On the "right" of the mirror is a wall which moves to the right, it "overlapps" the top the mirror frame at the frame level, but the wall part is flush with the non-moving wall.
2. On the "left" of the mirror is a wall which moves to the left, it "overlapps" the top the mirror frame.
3. Similarly, the bottom of the mirror has a "bottom wall" which moves down as it overlaps the "mirror" which is really a door with LED screens hidden behind of these two-way mirrors.
4. The mirror is a real mirror in that it is made of 2 two-way mirrors, which appears as a normal mirror in normal light, but when they turn down the lights the LED screens behind it lit up and change to reveal the castle and then a door pattern and it opens up as a "door", where you can walk into the room behind it.
5. Projections are digitally mapped to the mirror/door frame and projected on to it while it moves to create the magic sparkles.
6. Note that the "top" of the mirror does not move up.

The castmember has to ask everybody to "stand back" as little fingers could theoretically get caught in the moving walls, especially when it closes back-up.

You can barely see the seams on the HD version of the video, they did a good job hiding them and aren't noticeable when you see them unless you know where to look. Think Haunted Mansion stretch portraits.

I guess everyone now gets why I was defending these new style m&g's as I did when phase 1 was announced and why I questioned the removal of the other two. I knew they would amaze people. And they will have to have princess hall because the lines for Belle will be very long.

All that said, I think the success of this attraction will bring back the Cinderella and Aurora plans in the long term. They just will have to decide where to put them.

I love being right again. :)

OK, feel free to return to all the buzz over the mirror. It deserves it. And to think there is still even more magic to be revealed!

I think that some of the effects developed for Cinderella, Aurora will be coming to the Princess Fairytale Hall, in the former location of Snow White's Scary Adventures. But, I don't think they will build the massive M&G they had planned for FLE, it will probably be put in a Disney park in some form or another, . . . just not the Magic Kingdom.

Me to I have no idea how they did that. I can't say until I see this in person, but this looks to be the most amazing effect WDI has done since the hallway/starfield scene in ToT.

I agree except for the last 4 words. Time will tell.

I agree with you on this, I think you will see these sorts of effects in Princess Fairytale Hall and hopefully in Pete's Silly Sideshow. I also agree that it's unlikely the major Cinderella and Aurora M&G will show in Magic Kingdom.

Snarky remarks work best without typos and broken sentences.
