IMO, can't really fault this design choice. It's not great but it's not bad either. It's a creative solution just a bit obvious. Had the false legs not been added however I think the performer would have looked less like a "Man controlling Mech" and more like a "Man wearing Mech". Finding the distinction between the two and working out the problem of hiding the stiltwalker's legs has for all intents and purposes been resolved.
My only critique based on the teaser trailer is that the Mech "costume" appears to lack detail, at least in the video. I wonder too if the false legs being integral to the design should not be animated. Having the legs move via wire-controlled puppeteering should the performer need to display a kick, stomp or Russian cossack dance would further "prove" the Mech operator is seated. The design incorporates a decent illusion but it could be so much more effective if those legs could be animated by the operator.
Still... it's a pretty cool addition to the land!
