Rumor Version of MaxPass coming to WDW in May?

Again, this is completely speculative and we'll all look like idiots when Disney reveals whatever is it they will reveal (which won't be a surprise to me; I always look like an idiot).

However, if a pay-per-use feature was implemented I assume it would just be part of whatever Fastpass allocation they specify be made available (be it 30% or whatever of the ride's capacity). Price is then determined by availability within that pool and time/date/crowd sizes. Very similar to surge pricing models for Uber/Lyft.

Man, it would become like Vegas with people deciding if they should spend more money on gambling or cut their losses!
Hmm, it's $3 to ride Pirates now, maybe it will go cheaper if we wait, but maybe price will be $10 later!!! 🤣

So dynamic pricing of fastpasses could really help manage lines and guest flow. Chilly day -- Splash Mountain fastpasses go to half-price!
There was downtime at Tower of Terror making the lines really long, increase the price of a fastpass to bring down the line.
I'm sorry, this is just the worst operational idea I think I've ever heard. Disney can't even manage demand within the year across four parks, let alone between dozens of attractions within those four parks that respond independently to guest demand *in real time.*

What you're describing is essentially pricing a hot dog at $15 at noon but $8 at 3:00.

No reason you’d have to handle each micro transaction individually. I believe Apple stacks them up and processes once a day.
Apple products don't change their price from minute to minute.

Been happening since the dawn of retail. Never availed yourself of the student union quarter hot dogs after midnight in college, eh? Or some half-price day old donuts?

And no one is forcing anyone to buy a Fastpass.

Can you imagine how awful the lines at Guest Services would be?

To clarify a few things, since I now can:

“Free” FP will still be available as they are now. However they may not be free for the more popular attractions, or the ratio of “free” fast passes for the more popular attractions may be reduced. The ratio may be fluid, or alter over time. You may find you can’t get a “free” fastpass for Mine Train since they’ve “all run out” but you may then magically be able to pay for one.

There may be at least three different packages of paid fast pass available. As I understand it there maybe a limit on re rides (no more fast passing BTM then getting another one in the same day) depending on the product purchased.

This may be implemented on the newest and shiniest attractions first, once said attractions begin to take fastpass. The ratio here will possibly start quite low in favour of free passes and slowly change.

This may happen later this year.

One option to all intents for the regular guest will.

hmmmm

Plus what’s to stop someone from stealing a MB, or a child using it without permission. You can’t just swipe your band at every line queue it would be a financial nightmare. You need 2 factor indentification to use a MB for purchases.

Yup... and we are seeing more and more restaurants actually practice that type of dynamic pricing.

And Disney is actually pretty good at real time management of crowds. They dispatch characters to key spots in order to regulate traffic flow.

Based on a predetermined schedule, not *in real time.*

Yes, Disney front-line cast and guest service managers are good at making those decisions. We're talking about a Disney technology platform making these decisions autonomously.

It's already a combination of technology and guest services managers. No reason dynamic FP pricing would be any different than that.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect any such thing to be introduced any time soon.

But we are gradually progressing in that direction.

Look at the park reservation system -- Dynamic crowd control for each park, adjusting the mix of APs, resort guests, etc...

The park reservation system is not dynamic, and it doesn't have anything at all to do with the mix of guests. Where did you come up with that theory?

Park Pass doesn't do for Disney anything they weren't already able to do with FastPass+. FastPass+ told them where the crowds are coming on which days, same as this does. The only difference now is that Hollywood Studios is operating at pandemic-caused capacity restrictions.

There's nothing "dynamic" about it. It's literally a binary "yes or no" decision based on a predetermined capacity figure for each park.

It has nothing to do with the mix of guests?? You realize, they literally have been using different "pots" for each guest type.

Now whether it's dynamic behind the scenes or not, neither of us are privy to their data management.

@marni1971 are suggesting that what may be announced will be a entertaining to watch what the reaction will be?

There has been pictures of Fastpass signs being covered up or removed in WDW... Is this being renamed or is this going away?

Those FastPass signs have been covered since the parks reopened in July 2020, nothing new in the parks re: fastpass

No..... there is a recent report that the Fast pass queue sign at Space Mountain was painted over. But it may just be routine maintenance.

If you're talking about the recent report from Inside the Magic let me first say: LOL

I will then follow that by proving that Inside the Magic is clickbait, wrong, and shouldn't be taken seriously...ever. My proof? A screenshot of a video from August 2020 showing the sign in the exact same state as the "recent report" that incorrectly states that the sign being painted over is new.

Long story short? Never trust Inside the Magic, they have no idea what they're doing and don't know the Disney parks
