Vacation Review- the Good, Bad & the Ugly

We just finished a 10 night stay at WDW and all in all it was a very good trip. That being said, here are the 3 low lights (some new and some old):

1) The Nemo musical thing at Animal Kingdom- from the music, the blatent attempt to push the movie on its audiences, the ridiculous puppetry- this is by the far the worst attraction I have ever seen at Disney!

2) The Great Movie Ride- enough said!

3) The Tiki Birds- bring back the old management! I hadn't seen this in years and I think I'll wait for a new production!

4) The Prince Caspian thing at Hollywood Studios- I didn't need to spend thousands of dollars to watch an extended movie trailer. This thing was shameful advertising!

5) The Living Seas- this is a really cool attraction with the exception of the Nemo ride- talk about milking it!! Give Nemo (an us) a break already!

The above are really just minor annoyances- the following were our highlights:

1) Wolf- our guide on Jungle cruise. I have never had such a funny guide on this attraction- he was absolutely hilarious! His material was so original and really did not stick to the "script" at all. The entire ride consisted of making jokes about the various idiosyncracies of the ride. We actually got caught in a bit of a traffic jam where he ran out of material so he got serious and gave us some interesting info on Walt and the history behind this attraction. He was great. The only thing about getting a guide like this is that others really pale in comparison (like the one we got on trip #2 later that day).

2) Soarin'- we had never done this and it was incredible! Pure Disney magic.

3) The Land boatride- I hadn't been on this in years and really enjoyed it. What a pleasant surprise.

4) The Pixar ride in Hollywood Studios- this was a fantastic game.

5) Mission Space- never done this either and it was fantastic

6) The creepy guy in the library of the Tower of Terror- we had this Disney host wander through the room while we were watching the Twilight Zone bit and he would just stop and stare at people from 6" away (like my 15 year old daughter). It was hilarious and really added to the creepy mood of the ride.

Enough said.

Glad you enjoyed Wolf's cruise! He's an awesome skipper, and a really nice guy.

But I can't even come close to agreeing with you about the Nemo musical. It's honestly a spectacular addition IMO.

I too think that FNTM is a great addition to the AK. While Im not a fan of Nemo at all, It is a great addition to AK and one of the best shows at WDW. Lets be honest Tarzan was getting a little old.

I also really enjoy Finding Nemo in AK. However, I could write a list of other things to complain about after being in WDW the past couple days.

:eek: FNTM is one of the BEST live shows on property!!

- I am NOT a fan of FN or most of Pixar's recent releases. Being a former theatre-major, I think the show is BRILLIANT and original. Heck, it even makes me weepy when I hear "Big Blue World"

I think you need to go see it again with an open mind and it'll grow on you.

What were you expecting?

This was what I was wondering... I mean, the same thing can be said about Beauty and the Beast "It had music, and they were just shoving that dang Belle chick down our throats left and right!" I mean, isn't it kinda full disclosure already by naming it "Finding Nemo: The Musical"?

Plus, I think the puppetry was pretty awesome. And my 1 1/2 year old thinks it's the best thing on Disney property.

but to each their own I guess

More seats for us, next time. :D

Glad there were some perks in your trip. I need to look for that Jungle Cruise skipper next trip. Very cool to get a different perspective of an old favorite.

I'm on the Nemo bandwagon here. I love that show. I, too, think it's brilliant. Here's something to consider: Finding Nemo was not a musical. The songs, the puppets, everything had to be designed in order to create the interpretation of the story that you see in that stage show. So here you have a Broadway-style musical (I use that term loosely because I've never seen a show on Broadway) that is performed numerous times daily. Whether you like that it's an abbreviated rendition of the CG feature or not, one must appreciate the creativity, artistry, and engineering that continually makes the thing possible.

Also to be noted is that part of the original purpose for the park(s) and attractions was to bring Disney films to life. Yes, there has always been a certain amount of marketing involved as was intended by even Walt himself. Sometimes it comes off a bit blatant. Each person has their individual tastes.

The only thing bad about FNTM are those terrible bench seats in the theater. They spend lots of money enclosing/upgrading the theater and forgot to change out the seats!

I'll have to look for this Wolf person for the JC next time, I keep hearing about him...

Sorry you didn't like FNTM, we saw something similar with the Nemo on ice, puppetry and all was very similar and it really is a wonderful show (haven't seen FNTM at AK yet). Maybe next time just go on EE a few times instead of watching the show. Did you like Festival of the Lion King?

I am a huge fan of the Land pavillion.
The boat ride and soarin and with the circle of life redo....i'll like it even more.
I think the boat ride is a "underrated GEM" of Epcot.

I with you on the Finding Nemo Musical. I hate it. It is a great show for the little people and I can see why. I have sat thru it twice for the sake of my neice and nephew - but unless asked by them again - will not waste my time. I just don't like it.

Nemo at the Living Seas is okay and is better that what they had = Nothing. I really like the seagulls outside.

Another vote against it. Luckily my kids are a little older and we saw it once, in 2007 and that was enough for them, didn't have to go in 2008.

At least it's better than the God awful Tarzan Rocks! Actually, I can't stand the music in Tarzan, which is a big reason I didn't like the show.

Finding Nemo The musical - from a neutral and unbiased theatrical design point of view, it's fantastic. If you don't like the movie or musicals in general then it's your fault for even going in the building. It's like saying you hate Everest because you don't like roller coasters. (Or me saying I didn't like Tarzan Rocks because Phil Collins gives me seizures)

There are some great shows at WDW...my top 5 favorites in order:

Indy stunt show
Little Mermaid
Fantasmic
Beauty and the Beast
American Adventure
