News UP! A Great Bird Adventure Getting A Rewrite

Our main point about the new show was that the birds didn't seem ready for show (from a training/performing aspect). We saw it once in Sep '18, but did not repeat it on our Nov '18 trip.

This show is on my list of top 3 things that WDW has done to make me upset. This show represented so much of what made Animal Kingdom special. It was clever, funny and focused on the birds and now it's none of those things. Before it was something we would not leave the park without doing. Now, I don't know if we'll ever watch it again. They dumbed it down to a pre-school level and managed to talk down even to the pre-schoolers. Zero charm... Zero soul.

The other 2 things in that top 3: the loss of Banjo Brothers and Bob and talking Mickey (still haven't heard a reason why on Mickey)

I wasn't totally against the addition of characters here, and the rewrite helps some, but it's still not that great. It really wasn't that hard. I wonder what guest feedback on the show has been? EDIT: And I mean, couldn't they have incorporated Guano Joe into a new role as a Wilderness Leader who's scared of birds? IDK. So many different things they could have done. And I remember right before the new show was announced I was thinking it was time for an update to the show. Well, be careful what you wish for, lol.

I actually don't think it's quite as bad or horrible as some are making it out to be, but it's not super great, either. I'd call it medicore/passable (and the bar should be higher than that).

I'd call it somewhat offensive to what Diwali is all about.

I couldn't watch the video past the first minute, was that the only Diwali mention? I guess I should watch it all. I've seen the new show in person, but not the Diwali version. I just haven't had a chance to get back to AK yet over the last few months.

The Walt Disney Company distilling important cultural events down to their most basic, simple terms to exploit for profit? I just don't believe it, I tells ya. ;)

They still do more than most in terms of trying to educate about cultural differences. But sadly yep, they are indeed a "bizness" ;)

But this is SUPPOSED to be a bird show, right? It strikes be as sorely lacking in birds. It’s ANIMAL kingdom after all... shouldn’t I THEORETICALLY go to Epcot to be lectured on different cultures?? Oh, wait... ;)

So a thought I had for Epcot was to play up the culturally relevant holidays around World Showcase, I'd be 100% on board with a DiWali focus at the Caravan Stage on a seasonal basis, but the integration of the Up characters along with this is insulting to guest intelligence.

That’s different. Christmas is clearly both a religious and secular holiday now with different symbols and tie-ins.

Regardless of tie-in, either incarnation of this show is just horrible. I’d prefer them to go back to the original.

Someone wanted to know why Diwali was used in a peripheral non-religious, i.e. secular, way. The tie-in to Christmas is obvious.
