Unpopular WDW Opinions

Ok, by that rule, I don't NEED one, I want one, it makes everything much more comfortable for me.

It's just much easier to use an ECV than to walk with my two crutches and my prosthetic legs (yes both) that I have needed since birth for the many miles that are needed to tour the parks. Except for my crutches, just looking at me, you cannot tell I have the prosthetics. I did this for many many years, not wanting to be a "scooter user" and abuse the system or get special treatment - I was always told that I was just like anyone else - so I sucked it up, took the pain - I took care of my blisters, was constantly drenched in sweat, handled all of the issues that arose from my prosthetics on a nightly basis and iced my hands every night to reduce the swelling. I waited in line like everyone else. Stood on the bus so that women and children could sit. One year a friend convinced me that I would enjoy the parks much more if I used the scooter, and she was right.

Are there people that abuse the system? Of course, any system is abused.

Do they have an unfair advantage over everyone else? NO - it all balances out in the end. There is no line cutting for rides, we enter and load for most as you would. When we do get separate loading areas, they are in the back, or the very front - not always the best seats. I don't ride many Omnimover rides because I don't want them to stop them. You see the ECV "privilege" in going to the front of the bus line, what you don't see is the fight that we need to go through when we need to get through a crowd. Do your feet get stuck in the tracks on main st? Do people stop in front of you and you are helpless to turn and move past them easily? Those who can walk can easily side step - ECVs cannot. It takes us 2 to 3 times as long to leave a park in a crowd - so when we get to the bus, the line to the front (besides being needed for loading purposes) is just an equalizer, not a privilege. You also don't see what happens at unload time, because you easily step off the bus and you are happily on your way. ECVs are the last to be off the bus - guests get off first, then the ECV. Once again, you easily go ahead and get to your room or the food court etc, while we are being unloaded.

Are there people who don't know how to drive and knock things off of the shelves and who are jerks? Of course! but I could show you just as many idiots who have two good feet who cause just as many issues.

It all balances out - and we all need to be patient.

Sorry for the vent - but many won't understand this until they need to go through it themselves or with a loved one.
Sorry but, basically you need one. The super obese people you see roving around the grocery store packing them full of cheetos and soft drinks, not so much.

1. If you and the majority of the public only rode it sometimes, it was worth replacing (ellen, the great movie ride, horizons, etc.)
2. Speaking of replacements, some disney fans are hypocritical, they wanted it to change and ,now that it is changing, they are mad. I get the stigma against IPs, but if you wanted to keep it non IP, not complaining is one of the ways to do it.
3. I'm more excited for marvel land than star wars land.
4. I was never that into star wars, lucas, prequel, and sequels. I was never that into marvel except spiderman (the original one from the early 00s). Despite these two things, I still look forward to the rides, because I know the rides will be fun, or at least somewhat enjoyable.
5. The best snack in disney is soft serve ice cream. Like generic, soft serve ice cream.
6. Despite everything, I'm still more excited for the epcot renovation than anything else disney has done for dhs.
7. I am anticipating super nintendo world over everything that isn't epcot or marvel land though, sorry disney.

The MK was designed by people in their 50s and 60s...for people in their 50s and 60s.

Because Disney provided such a safe, secluded space where everything is reassuring, parents came to think of it as a great place for kids, which slowly forced Disney to rebuild the MK. Rather bizarrely, the typical guest of the MK went from a 55 year old male to a 5 year old girl.

From steamboats, steamships, Charlie Chaplin movies, Americana and history, flower and antique shops, to Bibbidi Boppity Boutique, Disney Store aesthetics, New Princessland Fantasyland, cartoons everywhere, and entertainment that specifically scans the audience looking for girls in princess dresses.

By the 1970s Disney had only produced three animated features with a princess in them, and one flopped so hard it forced the company to rethink how they make their movies. WED's idea of a Snow White ride at the time was all about the witch.

How times have changed.

Just curious- which one flopped?

This guy gets it.

I'd be shocked if any more than 25% of people in scooters at WDW are using them out of medical necessity. Absolutely shocked. Most people use them as strollers for lazy people.
Well, let’s assume that you’re correct (although you’re doing nothing other than engaging in pure conjecture). Even then, the fact that somebody would rather see those 25% not be able to enjoy the parks out of pure selfishness is pathetic. Anyone who feels that way is total garbage in my eyes.

I'm not the one who suggested banning them in the first place, so I'll defer to someone else to answer your question. I don't think the problem is the scooters themselves, I think the problem is that many people who drive them are either incompetent or flat-out rude. Even if someone medically needs it, that's no excuse to be oblivious of your surroundings, run people over, knock things off of shelves, etc.
What a joke. I’ve seen FAR MORE “incompetent and flat out rude” people walking around than I have seen in scooters.

If you medically need them, that's different. So long as you can safely drive the things. If you would rent a traditional wheelchair were scooters not available (like pre 2000's), you're very likely legit.

After the end of the long day, all of our legs hurt. Our knees ache. Our backs are stiff. Our ankles crackle. Our toes and heels get blisters. Our crotches get red from where the underwear rubs all day. If any of those ailments are the medical reasons you are referring to, you don't need a scooter. You want one. And that is what I would like banned.

Add to that bus line cutting privilege (and the 4-1 bus capacity consumption), and you have another good reason.
Well, then I suggest you stand at the entrance way and inspect all of those body parts on everyone entering to determine whether in your almighty view they deserve a scooter. How ignorant and arrogant of you to pretend to dictate whether someone else’s ailment is sufficient to justify a scooter.

Sleeping Beauty. It was Disney's most expensive animated movie ever at the time and only did OK business at the box office, resulting in a loss that caused the studio to lay off staff and switch to using Xerox machines to ink cells in an effort to save costs.

Over time it has become a money maker through continued reissues and merchandise sales, but in 1959 audiences and critics didn't care for it.

Many people have, and continue to work hard to ensure that people with actual disabilities obtain the accessibility they need by any means necessary. This isn't problematic at all, in any setting, provided that these accommodations are not abused by those who do not need. The poster in no way insinuated exposing the handicapped to the "inspections" you mention. Rather, it's quite obvious that the point really amounts to calling attention to the abusers. It really isn't that difficult to sort out who needs what. Professionals are paid a lot of money to do just that.

Clearly, you missed my point.

Good point about bearing the classic Disney movies, and telly, in mind to understand vintage WDW.

And speaking of Witchentric Snow ride, 1970's Fantasyland either wasn't the girl / toddler land of current public imagination. There was the scary Snow (the only female lead in Fantasyland, but unfit for young girls), there was the zany car drive to hell of Mister Toad, the swashbuckling on a pirate ship of Peter Pan, and the dangerous Jules Verne's submarine of Nemo. Nemo, who back then was an old bearded man and not a toon fish toddler. Fantasyland was a big boys land.

And when you got hungry, you ate in all-male movie Pinocchio or the very manly King Stefan's in the castle, amidst not princesses but mediaeval weaponry and heraldry.

I liked the other unpopular opinion thread from a few months ago. That was mostly people expressing their opinions without much flak back because just about everyone seemed to understand this was their chance to vent an unpopular opinion. It was a fun thread.

Personally, I have never had an incident regarding an electric scooter. I don't need one, as my disability is mental health, not physical health, but it does bother me that people are quick to judge those who use them. I've been judged by people who can't see my disability, therefore assuming that it's not there.

My unpopular opinion, as I stated on the previous thread, is that I don't mind IP rides/attractions. While I miss Maelstrom, the only problem I have with the Frozen ride is that it's undoable without a Fast Pass.

Unpopular Scooter for the win!

I won't even throw out an opinion, because i simply don't have one. I'm sure I've annoyed a few people, and some people have annoyed me, but eh, i'm an adult and can deal with it. Not my place to judge anyone.

10x more weird you mean.

The premise for this whole thread is "unpopular" after all. :p

I'm putting you on notice. We don't have kids and really enjoy going, just the two of us.

Kidding, course.

Unpopular Opinion:
1. Fast Pass overall stinks. I prefer moving lines to stop and go's.
2. Peter Pan is never worth more than a 30 minute wait.
3. I don't care if the Yeti never works.
4. Stupid giraffes need to stay out of the way on Kilimanjaro Safaris. I like giraffes but don't want to wait 10 minutes for them to figure out when to move on.
5. Kids who throw tantrums should be escorted out. Parents who throw tantrums should be banned.
6. Tour groups of any nationality should not be allowed to travel in groups. This includes cheerleaders, baseball, football, etc...
7. Alligators are a part of Florida. At most, give people warnings or post signs. Same with snakes. And rats (see related thread).
8. The additional theming for Little Mermaid and Seven Dwarves Mine Train were most definitely not worth the money spent. Further, immersive lands are a waste. I'd prefer more rides to enjoy with less theming.

None of those are unpopular opinions. I'd say you'd probably get 70% to 80% agreement on every single one of them.

Actual unpopular opinions would be:
  • Maelstrom kind of sucked and Frozen is a major upgrade.
  • Disney should significantly raise prices to combat overcrowding.
  • There's nothing wrong with charging for parking.
  • Unless you're a registered guest or have a dining reservation, you shouldn't be allowed to visit resorts.
  • The Magic Kingdom is more pleasant in the evenings without a nighttime parade.
Hahaha. Ok so this gave me a good laugh. Thank you!

Agree completely. Without ECV's, some people cannot go due to legitimate disabilities. My bigger grip is the kid who is obviously older than four years old who is in a stroller. And yeah, mental disabilities such as anxiety are no joke.
