I don't know if this has been posted yet but check out Universal's newest coaster, coming in spring 2009 near Jimmy Neutron. What a coaster! I hope the mouse makes some major announcements soon!

ORLANDO, FL (March 19, 2008) – Adrenaline pumping and music thumping, you find yourself heading straight toward the sky. Suddenly, you are doing 65 mph, 17 stories over Universal Studios. Gasping with excitement, you rock out to a song you picked before strapping in. And, it’s all on video. Once the adventure is over, you edit the video to send to your friends.

This is true high-tech, customizable, multi-sensory entertainment. Scheduled to open in spring 2009, Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will stake its claim as the most technologically advanced roller coaster in the world. The Universal Creative team is combining audio and special effects engineering, sophisticated on- and off-board video and one-of-a-kind guest personalization to create a roller coaster experience unlike any other.

“This is the perfect intersection of the digital age and theme park entertainment,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Creative for Universal Parks & Resorts. “Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit blends roller coaster intensity and guest interaction in a way where no two experiences will be the same.”

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit touts six near-miss moments and first-ever thrills including a record-breaking loop. Ride vehicles feature the brightest and most innovative color changing LEDs in the world. High-energy visual displays fill the queue line. With up to four ride vehicles on the tracks at any given time, and with concert lighting and special effects mixed in, Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will be a true high-intensity, multi-sensory experience that is unmatched.

Guests can customize their ride experience by choosing what song will play while they’re on the roller coaster. LED boards in the queue lines will display song options from five genres (classic rock, rap, country, pop and disco). Once on-board, guests can choose their song or let the coaster’s digital sound system choose for them. When the ride is over, guests will be able to customize footage from their experience and compile it into a take-home music video.

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will be located near the Jimmy Neutron attraction traveling the southern perimeter of the Universal Studios theme park, over to the CityWalk lagoon and back.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Now THAT'S the innovation that Disney has been lacking! Universal will take that idea and make a 'B' ride, when Disney could have taken the idea and made a kickin' 'A' ride out of it!

One way or another, it's Disney's turn! Freakin' announce something sweet already!

I love how Universal keeps announcing major additions (simpsons ride, Harry Potter land, this coaster) and Disney is still hyping the year old promotion year of a million dreams and there upcoming pixar cash-in toy story mania.

If they don't announce any major additions for Orlando soon people are gonna start planning trips for Universal/Harry Potter instead and on top of that there is a recession and if people are going to spend there money there going to want real value which Disney isn't really providing right now (MK is stale, Epcot has nothing new, DHS and AK are half day parks).

Most of the money for Disney Parks over the next four years is going into Disney's California Adventure, to the tune of 1 Billion Dollars.

Disney isn't going to shell out much more than that during a Recession.

TSM does sound cool and they are constantly adding/plussing things,

That is a seperate budget dude. The 1 billion upgrades to DCA has nothing to do with the budget for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, or any other branch of the company.

Guys? This is a huge steel coaster all over Universal Studios and CityWalk, causing noise pollution, disrupting skylines and making everything ugly. What happened to premium themed rides? This ride's theme, for lack of a better word, is "teh interwebz".

Excellent...man Universal Orlando is going to be the place to be in 2009. I have been to Universal Japan where they have a similar ride to this called Hollywood Dream. It has LEDs on the coaster, as well as selectable in-car soundtrack when the coaster starts. It's a B&M mini-hyper that delivers big time air and tight turns in a compact layout...one of the best B&M speedcoasters I have ever been on. However, there is no info on who is building this new ride, and the trains don't look like typical speedcoaster trains. With a vertical lift seen in that artist rendering, I would imagine this is something quite different.

Okay. But then why aren't there any new rides planned for WDW after Midway Mania opens next month? There's not a single bulldozer in sight, which means there won't be anything opening until 2011 at the very earliest. 2012 is more likely, but the bulldozers still need to show up fast and get started.

Where are the new rides at WDW?

HRRR! at Uni is definately, as you would call it, an "A" ride for the following reasons.

1) Nothing like this exists anywhere. (I mean the LEDs, multiple tracks to listen to, and making a music video out of it and being able to send it to your friends.)

2) The loop they are talking about is a non-inverting loop. It's an incredible concept, and it also appeals to a wide variety of people. (Except for those who don't ride roller coasters. Can't help you there.)

Good going Universal!

Ah yes, but as economic conditions are cyclical, its smart to spend the money during a recession (when theoretically costs may be lower) and be ready for when good times return. And really, when you think about it, if people are going to be tight with their money, they're not going to bother returning to WDW for the same old thing...there would have to be new and exciting additions to encourage their return.

At least, that's the optomist in me...

Anyone else get the feeling that if this was announced for Disney the "no-screens, dark ride rulez" folks would come out of the woodwork to bash it?

All I know is:

Recession + Competition strengthening + no new major WDW attraction announcements + overbuilding of Disney Vacation Club = Disaster iminent.
