Universal Has Started Charging $2 for Some Ride Lockers

Look at the image in my post though, the lockers are still free for the time it takes to ride an attraction that requires one.

Do you know how that would work? I mean, depending on the wait time, riding MIB could be a quick 15 minutes or close to
45 minutes. How does the locker know how long it took you to ride?

Yes, that system has been in place for a long time now and it adjusts based on the wait time.

The small ones are free.

If you have a package or you need supplies that won't fit in a small bag, you either pony up for a $2 locker every time you want to ride something with a locker requirement or you schlep your way to and from the front of the park every time you need to get your stuff.

If you need supplies for medical reasons you can get a locker for free. If you have a large package send it to the front of the park or to your room. I'm really not seeing the problem here.

Thank you for the information. I think the problem is just coming in reference to paying for something, that they have
never had to pay for before. It isn't even the amount, though, like taxes, you know the charge is not going to go down
in the future.

There has always been a charge for attraction lockers if you've gone over your allotted free use time though. That's been the case for a long time now.

There are workarounds. None of them are especially convenient nor do they work in every situation.

If you don't see the problem it's because you are actively ignoring all the ways in which this policy inconveniences guests. I started typing up examples, but then I realized that these have been adequately explained here already. You just don't want to acknowledge their legitimacy so there's really no reason to rehash the same points over again.

Maybe because there's nothing to acknowledge? There are all sorts of options available, and this is a great way to stop the lockers from being abused and constantly at capacity.

This policy will inconvenience guests whether you choose to acknowledge that fact or not.

I'm perfectly fine with a guest being inconvenienced if it means I can store my things in a locker when I go on MiB without waiting half an hour for a locker to be free.

I have never waited for more than three minutes for a locker at MiB.

How often do you go on it?

It is my family's favorite ride. We go when school is out, so it's not like the parks aren't crowded. Ride it over and over.

I have never once seen the lockers there full. At worst, I have to wait for someone to step out of the way.

How many times a year do you go? When school is out isn't a number. For example I might be there every single Saturday or Sunday over the summer. I may also be there for Thanksgiving or Christmas, as well as dozens of other days during the year.

Riding the attraction over and over means you're probably leaving a bag in the locker for longer than it takes to ride. That's fine, but if it inconveniences someone else you should pay for that.

You're there more often than we are. Maybe on Christmas or Thanksgiving, there are crazy long waits for lockers, but those days are outliers. I don't think the new lockers are going to help much when the parks are at capacity.

We have EP, so we'll ride MIB a few times in a row. Five or six tops. The longest we have ever used a locker is probably around 20 minutes.

Locker scarcity has never been an issue in our experience. I can imagine with the new set-ups, Universal has created scarcity for the larger lockers. But that wasn't a problem previously. Certainly not at Men in Black.

It isn't always, but it can get pretty bad in the summer time and around the holidays. I've had longer waits for lockers than I have the ride on multiple occasions (also have EP).

I will be curious to see the impact of the new locker set-up. I am all for a policy change that actually benefits guests. If that is what happens, I will take back my objections.

This doesn't impact us greatly either way. Since we're staying on property we can pack lightly. We have never ever had an issue waiting on lockers. Not even remotely. I don't see that changing for better or for worse. We do make use of the lockers, but usually to hold souvenirs. The simplest solution for us and one that conveniently sends a message to Universal is to stop buying souvenirs. If this policy gets changed, that will tell me a lot of other people reacted the same way. If not, well, I guess we were in the minority.

This isn’t about using the lockers beyond one’s ride time. This is a new, up front fee. It could inconvenience you buy encouraging the use of multiple lockers instead of a single locker.

No it won't, the new free lockers are smaller and won't fit a large backpack or diaper bag so using multiple lockers is nonsense. The larger lockers are what cost $2, if that's a problem leave the pots and pans back in the room. :joyfull:

People don't need to take everything you own with them everywhere they go.

I agree that people are getting a bit ridiculous with the amount that they bring into the parks. The problem is though, with these new small lockers, even a regular sized, only moderately full backpack has trouble fitting in them.
