Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Opens May 22 2025

Yup - but that's if Universal releases new APs along the park's opening (or before).

Would be odd to have people renew in June for a 3 dry or 4-park pass and then find out your blocked out the entire summer lol
I expect you’ll learn well in advance of 2025 what it will look like and when that new version of the AP will become available. They might not have the new cost (depending on when they announce it relative to opening though). I don’t imagine they could start selling that more expensive 3 park AP until the new park is actually open, and then not likely at the very beginning.

I'm not too sure, it's Universal we're talking about, they like to hold their cards to their chest.

On some things.

It depends on how it goes.

You can already book for some of the onsite hotels that do not open until Jan 2025.

Not saiyng ticket info and rates soon. That will come more early next year. But when they figure out what to charge they will be happy to take the money.

I'd imagine it will be like how IOA was handled - once the park was ready for previews, you could upgrade your existing pass. I dunno if they will block out the summer.... if the crowds aren't bad I'd expect them to start selling 3-park AP's rather quickly.

;)Nope, they're gonna build a hotel instead. An absolute low-point in theme park design that had Disney attempted would have literally melted this site, but is somehow aspirational since it wasn't Disney doing it.

DLP Hotel?

The hotel is very nice and fits the hub's aesthetic. Unlike the modern Disney towers of Gran Destino and Riviera, this will be very nice and themed appropriately.

If you swapped the DLP Hotel with the castle then you'd have an apt comparison.

How do you figure? The castle is in the hub centralized in the park surrounded by themed lands. The Epic Universe hotel is not...it is set at the far end of the central spine...more akin to American Adventure albeit without the expansive lagoon.

The hotel will act as a backdrop. Personally, I wish they didn't do this as IMO it takes up valuable park space but at least it looks as if it will fit the overall theming of the spine.

Where do you think the hotel is located? It is along the perimeter of the park, just like the Disneyland Hotel, the planned WestCOT hotels, the Grand Californian, Hotel Mira Costa and the upcoming Fantasy Springs Hotel.
Isn’t it literally the tallest structure in the background as you walk back through the park, with the lands off to the sides? Seems like a focal point to me.

It’s like if you built Cinderella Castle at the Pinocchio restrooms. But a hotel.

I’d rather a 5th land.

There are 2 massive expansion pads for future lands. Along with each land having its proper expansion pad. Lots of room for future improvement. We all want more lands, and rides, but it's unfair to critique a park's design simply because you don't agree with it and want another land.

Remember, each land has its own "weenie" so I can see why Universal avoided placing a land at the far end.

Also, the actual hotel (not the one from the released concept art) is very elegant and fits the general theme of the hub.

My only gripe about Epic Universe is the fact that, as of today, Universal is not ready to operate and properly staff a 3rd park with the way they currently run just 2.

it isn’t a gateway or tucked away, it is the weenie. I don’t get how the same forum that believes a hotel in the Epcot parking lot would be a crime against humanity, but has reached consensus that placing one front and center as the icon is just fine.

Because designing something from the outset with a specific intent is radically different than adding something in later that disrupts the design intent.

Yes, a design decision I find deplorable, but am clearly in the minority so I’ll leave it at that and just be utterly baffled from the sidelines.

DisneySea has a hotel that takes up a ton of skyline in what many consider the most beautiful Disney Park.

Since it’ll be connected directly to the central spine, maybe the entire entry level floor will serve as extensions of the park.

Because Universal gets a free pass all the time. I pointed out a bunch of cuts at UOR and got 6 responses. A toilet breaks at WDW and it’s a CNN headline.

I've been very adamant/vocal against Universal over the past few months now (you can see some of my brutal comments on Twitter and the InsideUniversal forums), so Universal is on my bad side at the moment. But complaining about a hotel (that is visually breathtaking from the concept art) is a separate issue from entertainment. Universal Creative has matched (or surpassed) the design and quality of Imagineering... yet Universal still operates the parks like a damn regional Six Flags. It's embarrassing as they claim to be a world-class resort and dampens the experience that Universal Creative designed.

But you are right to an extent, Universal gets away with a lot of things that Disney would be crucified over. Universal closes their parks in favor of corporate buyouts regularly at 6-7PM (or just cause they feel like closing early) even though their parks have matched WDW's attendance levels.

That last statement is the one thing that really bothers me about Universal. Islands of Adventure, especially, is beautiful all lit up and they close the parks so early that you don't get to experience it. While it's far from my favorite attraction in the park, the Seuss Trolley at night during the holidays is one of my must-do's and there is a small window to experience it.

Hours lately are outrageous. I presume they will need to cut hours and entertainment further just to open Epic at a satisfactory level.
