Well, I hear a lot of chastising but, I certainly don't hear any answers. I've been on both sides of that fence. Grew up as a teen smoker. It was very cool then. I quit after a friend crushed his larynx in an accident and had to have a traic tube. That visual freaked me out and I quit cold turkey. Yes, everyone in France smokes. There it is socially acceptable, along with hairy arm pitted women and men who smell worse than, well nobody has mentioned farting in the park yet?! I take great satisfaction from cutting loose in the que. Insn't that stinky and dangerous? I don't mind smokers. Everyone has a so called ghost in the closet and, I believe Disney has done a supurb job to keep it out of your face. So, there it is, spam away.

No, you are absolutely right about that. They have done very well there!

Someone earlier mentioned that Orange County imposes fines for it (I know here, the fines are to the parents ). The question is (and i suppose this really extends to any other county/state law as well), is Disney required to enforce such laws on its property. I guess it's similar to the speed limits on the roads or shoplifting from a store. Someone is responsible for enforcing these laws. Does Disney choose which laws to enforce (i.e. Shoplifting but not smoking laws) or are they requireded to enforce them all by contract w/ the state/county (which I think is the case with the roads but i'm not sure)?

since they don't have an actual police department, but rather private security (which contrary to popular belief, does NOT have power of police (even though some think they do!)), they really can't enforce any laws. They can report them to OC. However, since WDW is soooo big, and OCSO has so few deputies there, WDW concentrates mainly on "real" crimes, and not minor infractions like underage smoking.

Ya know i ve noticed that the state of florida has a ton of young smokers. Im not sure if cast members card anyone i would guess not. Its not like they could give them a ticket.

Florida has the solution!

This entire thread will be moot come this November. A referendum is on the Florida ballet that (if passed) will add an amendment to the Florida Constitution which will ban public smoking in places such as WDW. Then the smokers will sneak off to the restrooms to inhale their drug (also illegal). Perhaps a bounty will be put on smokers at WDW. Local law enforcement has enough to do without having to worry about WDW problems.

In the UK it is only illegal to sell tobacco to under 16's - not illegal to smoke it. I don't know how the law stands in the US.
I guess that the only people they're hurting is themselves.

Hey man, not even I smoke in my house, no way. I don't smoke anywhere indoors. Also, just wanted to point out that smoke rises. So if you smell it, it isn't me, it's someone else walking around you puffing. AND definitely never in a line, or down any walkway. I actually found a spot in Animal Kingdom right behind the Tuscan House, it isn't a designated area, but nobody is ever there. CM walked by and just said hi. If you don't bother anybody, they wont care. Just an FYI.

You may follow the rules - but many, many people don't. And its my pet peeve when an idiot lights up and it puffing away while walking along and the family behind him is breathing it in. I don't think that smoking should be allowed anywhere on property. maybe designated areas OUTSIDE the parks far from the entrance and bus stops. The resorts should limit it to a designated area to because I hate having to smell and inhale the smoke when I am enjoying the pool. You may have the right to smoke but we non-smokers have the right to breathe.

ANYWAY, I think this thread has gone too far. Who are you to judge what somebody does to themselves. I stress that I hate it when people light up anywhere but the designated areas, but hey, if you don't like it, stake out the designated smoking areas and avoid them. It's not right for people to smoke in non-designated areas, especailly at Disney cause children are mostly affected, and really it's not fair to them. The designated areas are usually out of the way. As far as making it ilegal to smoke anywhere public really isn't fair either, I mean as long as it's outdoors and there IS a smoking area, why should I who enjoys an occasional smoke(not two packs a day) be subjected to some stupid law. Florida aways proposes these types of laws and they never come through. The closest to that is in California where it is ilegal to smoke anywhere there is a roof over your head(even in bars). Now outdoors too? That makes no sense, and mark my words, it'll never pass. All the resorts have bars too, and guess what, you're allowed to smoke there too. Again, if you don't liek it, stake it out and avoid that area. If someone is smoking outside that area, point it out to a CM, and I am sure they'll ask them to put it out.:o

Now that's my last post here, cause you will all rip me now because I enjoy a cigarette once in a while. Sometimes a cigar at night by the pool with a black on the rocks.

A new california law that we here will be voting on come nov. is fining a smoker $250.- if he/she smokes within 25 ft. of a playground, school, playing field, etc.

Ya' know, nobodies even touched on all the diesel exhaust one inhales in and arround WDW. That isn't much better than nicotene smoke.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I know that other cultures, it is acceptable to start smoking, if that person chooses, as a child. Maybe that is where all the younger smokers come from.

Thanks MKTiggerman for explaining that to me. I have a lot to learn about the different laws in Florida...
