Underage Smokers?

Oh, me too! I have lost so many family members to smoking (luckily, everyone left has quit). They all had very painful ends. It was so sad to see them that way.

Of course, I'm one to talk about health-- I just ate a good amount of raw cookie dough!

Yeah, it is tough to watch them go through it.

YUM!!! Cookie Dough.....

I believe so.. I'm not sure if its like that in all of Orange County, but most towns in the southwest corner (which also covers WDW) have that as their law

i think it's smart to ask where they come from first since different countries and places have different laws. Where i live it is illegal to buy if your under 19 but you can smoke. I don't get this but it's true.

Yeah I bet a lot of places have a law against buying them if you are under age, but not somking them. I guess they don't think it would do any good or something. I don't know

Lets not forget disney is a worldwide thing....not every country has the same smoking laws that we have here in the US...

Sadly smoking is on the increase inthe UK especially amongst young and teenage women.

I always found better things to do with my money than buy tabs, like beer for instance:dazzle:

Not sure about the alcohol in Europe, but I must say the smoking there scared me to death. There was smoke EVERYWHERE! We were inside the main building that acts as the entryway to Disney Studios and it's clearly marked all over the place -- "No Smoking" -- and everyone was smoking and PUTTING OUT THEIR CIGARETTES ON THE FLOOR. They were inside a building for goodness sakes. I can't imagine how hard it must be for Disney to clean that up. And we saw TONS of kids on camp/school trips and such that looked to be around 10-15 who were smoking. They were everywhere. Very sad.

Is it legal for a person of any age to drink beer in Europe, or am I thinking of wine in France?

It varies country to country and some hardly bother to enforce it.
In the UK theres a big problem with underage drinking, normally people start about 15 or so but now its 11 year olds very sad. What I want to know is where do they get the money.

Strange places to buy beer, Autobhan service stations, McDonalds, street vendors.

Back to smoking the French and Italians are the worse, I walked into the Hangar and there was three guys changing an engine aviation fuel everywhere and there they were sat on the aircraft wing having a crafty tab.

People are being exposed involuntarily to a very dangerous and addictive drug (nicotine) against their will. Aside from the fact that cigarette smoke smells nasty, second hand smoke can cause ill health to some people even in an outdoor setting. Smoking is indefensible in any public place or private places (such as WDW) that invite public attendance.

Hey Tal,

I hardly believe that is I smoke a cigarette in some designated palce far from you and anyone else, finish my cig, then go back that it is gonna hurt you at all. I am only hurting myself in this matter. I am not sitting next to you and puffing a cuban while your having dinner.:lookaroun

Well, I think you'd be surprised to know how far that stuff travels. We can smell it from well within the non-smoking area! But you are right-- that little bit is not going to hurt us. It's a minor irritation and we can keep right on walking!

Thank you for going to the designated area and not lighting up in line! :sohappy:

Hey man, not even I smoke in my house, no way. I don't smoke anywhere indoors. Also, just wanted to point out that smoke rises. So if you smell it, it isn't me, it's someone else walking around you puffing. AND definitely never in a line, or down any walkway. I actually found a spot in Animal Kingdom right behind the Tuscan House, it isn't a designated area, but nobody is ever there. CM walked by and just said hi. If you don't bother anybody, they wont care. Just an FYI.

Trust me, with our non-smoking noses, we can smell it! I realize smoke rises but it blows around quite a bit. My aunt didn't believe it herself until she quit and got her sense of smell back.

I can smell ya from a mile away (slight exaggeration)

But like I said, from that distance it is an irritation but nothing to get PO'ed about as long as someone is in a designated area.

PS You're right- Animal Kingdom is a truly great park!

I think the original intent of the question wasn't a smoking good/smoking bad issue. I know here in Missouri, many counties actually have laws against underage smoking. Someone earlier mentioned that Orange County imposes fines for it (I know here, the fines are to the parents ). The question is (and i suppose this really extends to any other county/state law as well), is Disney required to enforce such laws on its property. I guess it's similar to the speed limits on the roads or shoplifting from a store. Someone is responsible for enforcing these laws. Does Disney choose which laws to enforce (i.e. Shoplifting but not smoking laws) or are they requireded to enforce them all by contract w/ the state/county (which I think is the case with the roads but i'm not sure)?
