Typhoon or Blizzard ???

We are planning a trip in May and have never been to the water parks. What park would better for a 5 & 7 year old. They both look fun. Also would the weather be warm enough , and will the water park be an all day thing or will we have time to do something after? thanks

Personally, I like Typhoon Lagoon a wee bit better. But Blizzard Beach might be better for a 5-7 year old, although both have things that appeal to that age bracket. The weather should be plenty warm by then too. We go in March, and the water is lovely then. Heated pools I believe. Water parks usually close around 5pm when we are there, so plenty of time to do other things after supper.

We went to Blizzard Beach last year in May and it was perfect water park weather. It's a toss-up as far as which water park, they both are great!

I have always liked the theme of Blizzard Beach better and a few of the slides are favorites of ours. We tend to get there first thing in the morning when its a little less crowded and leave in the afternoon, but usually still have time to do something later. Since one waterpark is located near the Animal Kingdom and the other near Downtown Disney, that may make a difference for you too.

I agree with Pooh... Location can be important! I personally love the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon and I'm not a big fan of wedgie-inducing water slides, so I tend to go for the more "mild" selection there as well. Blizzard Beach is the "prettier" of the two though.

We did Typhoon Lagoon in Oct. My son who is 6 loved it. He's not a big fan of waterslides but still had a great time. Shark Reef scared him though. He's not a great swimmer and even though he had on a life vest (you can get these at either park to use all day for free) he freaked. Luckily it wasn't busy and my daughter and I went right back in line. He loved the wave pool, lazy river and the family slides. We got to the park before opening and was done by noon. This left penty of time for other things. My husband had a golf tee time so the kids and I swam, napped then rode a boat from WL to the MK to transfer to AKL to hunt hidden Mickeys. It was a fun afternoon/evening.

I haven't been to Blizzard Beach in 13 years so I can't say what it's like now. I did enjoy it when I went. I didn't have kids then so I don't know what it's like for kids.

Ill start by saying I really dont think you can go wrong with either park. Both parks are awesome but in different ways. BB does have more "thrill" slides but TL has the better wave pool and the theming is much better. My daughter loved both and my nephew (9yrs) went to both last summer and the wave pool at TL was his favorite part of the trip but he still loved both parks. I say print out the maps pull up some vids and let them see all the different stuff and let them choose.

I agree with erasure fan1, you won't go wrong with either park.

My personal feeling is that Typhoon Lagoon is a little better for small children. In general terms, Typhoon has a lot more shaded areas if you want a break from the sun. Blizzard Beach with all that reflecting white can do a number on you if not fully sunscreened up.

I think it depends on your children’s swimming ability and preferences. We went to Typhoon Lagoon last trip. DS is a strong swimmer and loved body surfing the waves in the wave pool. DS is not a big fan of waterslides however. He also loved the shark reef and must have done it 20 times. He just kept going around and getting back in line.
We camped out on the right side of the wave pool (facing the wall) close to the lazy river raft ride. My son kept saying “look at all the lazy people.” Between the wave pool, lazy river and shark tank he was busy, and had fun, all day.

My daughter liked typhoon lagoon better than blizard beach. One of her biggest reasons was all the stairs at blizard beach. She thought TL was easier on her legs. Plus she liked the rides and wave pool better. She was 10 yoa last year when we went.

On our last trip we did both with our boys (ages 10 & 6) for the first time. They enjoyed both but have stated if they had to choose one they would prefer to go back to BB when we return this year.

Check out the maps of both. They both have great slides and such and most our youngest could do. One thing to notice is that TL only has one designated kid area - Ketchakiddee Creek. On the other hand BB has two designated areas - Tikes Peak (similar to Ketchakiddee) and then they have Ski Patrol Training Camp (for a little bit older kids). My youngest one loved the Ski Patrol area that fit his swimming ability and adventureous side more. My oldest wanted to do all the big stuff so both parks were fine by him. Every child is different, just do some research and you won't go wrong with either one.

As has been pointed out, there is no wrong decision here.

That said, I'd go with Blizzard Beach. It's the newer of the 2 parks and in some cases you can see where Disney improved on some things. The lazy river is longer at BB. The family raft ride is MUCH longer at BB. I also prefer the theme. If also has both a preteen section and a kiddie section, (TL only has the kiddie section). Also, there are the carpet golf courses nearby.

However, if you are interested in waves, the wave pool is much bigger at TL, as are the waves themselves. They also have the shark reef and Crusher Gusher 'water coaster' if those interest you.

I personally prefer the longer slides, including the big one, Summit Plummet. (which makes Dumbo look like Ellen's Energy Adventure in terms of wait time to ride length, far and away the worst in all of WDW. Wait for an hour, ride for 8 seconds, including the ride out at the bottom).

I love both so would be sat on the fence. If the shark reef and wave machine was in BB it would be perfect. We always go in May and it is hot. The only downside of BB is I always burn even tho I am on the lotion hourly I always come home pink so will be putting my son in a rash vest as his skin is like mine.
I think it is because everything is so white it reflects. Now my sister who looks at the sun and goes a beautiful colour loves BB lol
