The older WDW buses caused a bit of a problem for us one night. The overheating is a huge problem. We got on one went all the way to the back and sat down. My husband leaned his arm against the back wall and was instantly burned by it. Luckily, it wasn't a small child or a baby leaning their face over a shoulder onto that back wall. After getting off the bus we told the driver, he called it in and parked the bus at the MK until they replaced it and took it to the garage. There are alot of issues with the old buses even though I like them better.

tyler do disney busses have air ride susspension?

With very little exception, most coaches and transit buses have airbag suspensions to help smooth out the ride. Some are even equipped with Kneelers, which deflate the air out of one or two bags to lower the entrance/exit to the bus.

Well, as rock solid as the RTS is... when a bus is 20 years old and has 2 million miles on the clock, there's always something bound to go wrong. However, the majority of the problems with the RTS are small, and typically age related. If the rear axle goes out on a 20 year old bus, well, it's not good, but it's not unheard of. Now, if the rear axle goes out on a 1 year old bus, well, then that's a problem. (Take a look at the Nova's... if the rear axle cap is black, it's had problems and usually been replaced... and many of them are indeed black)

As for that particular problem, I know of the bus that happened to, or perhaps another simmilar situation. What happened was the heat shield had fallen slightly, and allowed some of the engine heat (190 degrees) to seep into the passenger compartment.

If it was just a few weeks ago....July12th - 21st that was our bus. The whole bus was so hot inside we were sweating. Guess that should've tipped us off.

Yeah tyler these uipdates are great. The problem that i always see with the new lfs busses is that when a wheelchair is loaded the ramp that comes out frrom the floor never goes back in when the driver presses the button for it to retract. After about 3 attempts the driver usually kicks it and it will go back in.

Do you know why the old green boats on the sassagoula river were replaced by the new cream and blue ones, and where they ended up. I asked once about the new boats and the old ones but i dont think they said why they were replaced.

Yes, the retractable ramps are very troublesome. *shrug*

As for the boats, they were parked across my apartment for a long while, not sure where they dissapeared to after that.

Tyler, I know this has been asked before in previous bus threads, but has there been any talk of better decoration ideas for the bus exteriors? A lot of people don't feel the bus is as "magical" as the monorail...some "window dressing" might help with this.

And on a side note...we've stayed on property the past two years, and only had one bus driver on all the trips we had who was a talker...and he talked about how many times he wanted to stop the bus to kick off wild kids and rude parents (he kind of reminded me of the war vet in the movie Gremlins - he was actually kind of comical).

It would be a cheap solution to the hazy windows!

just fyi to paint a bus the way lynx paints the full side windows and everything cost about 4500 to 7500 depending on the detail take that number and times it by the 200 busses disney has.

I am not saying that drivers should or shouldn't engage in conversation on the bus. However, It must be pointed out that Federal Law prohibits talking to a bus driver and he or she talking to a passenger while traveling from place to place. Its up to the driver to conduct theirselves in whatever manner they feel comfortable with knowing that if something were to happen, and he or she was talking, a serious issue could be made of it by an involved party.

from Section 4.5 of the Florida Commercial Drivers handbook entitled Prohibited Practices

Don't talk with riders, or engage in any other distracting activity, while driving .

Interesting point...but, would this law apply since they are driving private buses on private property?

Yes. Disney roads are not actually private property but a part of the Reedy Creek Improvement District which is a Florida Government Body.

As far as the busses being private, it really doesnt matter as the rule quoted applies to all holders of commericial drivers licenses operating passenger vehicles.
