Just a quick trivia question I wonder if you could answer for me. About how many busses does WDW own, and how many are operated on average on a normal day (non-peak times) Something I have always been curious about.

We own 295 buses, however, of that, only 223 are in active service. The rest have been retired, and currently used for parts, or awaiting rehab work to bring back into service.

Of those 223, maybe 150 or so are running on the average midday. (Non-peak)

Does the 223 include those used backstage for CM or are those considered retired?

Yes. Those buses are part of our regular guest fleet.

Tyler, would you by any chance know how many of those white Walt Disney World Co. trucks and vans they own. How about trams. Oh and once while at AK I saw a bright yellow truck that said Walt Disney World Bus Maintance how may of these are there. Also do you happen to have a picture of this or a Walt Disney World garbage Truck. Thanks in advance.

Low floor buses (not just the LFS) are great because they have a wide front door, and no steps, so boarding is quick. And the perimiter seating allows for a wide aisle to accomodate strollers, however it comes at a cost of 4 seats.

Our typical RTS has 41-45 seats. The Nova LFS has 35.

This is great information. I honestly thought there were more seats on those buses. What's the "sardine city" record? How many people can actually be crammed into those buses? To me on some nights it has seemed like 100 but I know that's too much.

What are you talking about. I wasn't trying to be anything . I am just very interested in this info and he seems to be the most knowledgeable person about this stuff. If he doesn't know or doesn't want to respond thats fine I just thought I would ask.

As far as I know, it's still covered under the Class B... the SuperBus however, that's Class A.

In reality though, Disney wouldn't get Artics only because they'd have to redesign some load zones... and that would cost too much money.

I stand corrected. At one point the articulated buses were to be considered a combination vehicle. Apparently that has changed.

You are right though, some major engineering would have to be done to make those work on Disney property

No clue as to the amount of Disney company vehicles or whatnot. As for the Diesel Truck, we have 2... just bought a brand new one identical to the other, except it's plain white.

hmmm, Tyler, I can answer your questions to why the Crocodile Belle is out there. Oh and by the way, releasing the exhaust into the air is cleaner than in the water, the water is dirty as it is with all the "Mickey Muck" and such in the water.

Oooh... I would love to know!

And yes, the water is filthy enough as it is. Besides, I've never really seen one of the Launches or Cruisers emit any form of smoke... only the Ferry, and very little at that.

Hi all,
Tyler....just wanted to give a heads up to you and the rest of the gang here...The discovery riverboat is being tested and some of the trainers are being trained on how to operate it since it is much different to drive than our other boats. They are looking into using these boats for possible fireworks viewing for some reason. I would imagine they would be something like a charter boat....so i dont know why the regular charter pontoons and such wouldn't work well. And I also suppose that if we were to have these boats in our fleet we would have more routes, but then we would need the staffing...and being that shorthanded is the name of the game in a lot of areas, that won't happen.

Ty--I just transferred into watercraft as you might be able to tell. I am earning my ears right now...Deckhand Tony they call me. LOL. Next week I will be training on the Cruisers, so I am looking forward to that. If you are around T-Base breakroom, look for me.

Have a Disney Day.
Tony

The Discovery Riverboats were modelled after the Friendships, in that they're operate by a 360 degree prop.

When you combine their low speed with this style of steering it makes it very easy to teach new captains. We went through 3-4 days of training before our checkout test by one of the senior captains.

The Friendships are 66 feet long, but the Discoveries are probably only 45-50 so they should be even easier to dock.

I miss stern docking those Friendships!

The only thing wrong with the older RTS buses is that the interiors are old, and falling apart. So, we've started to rehab the interiors of some buses. 2734 is the first bus, and WOW it looks great. New seats, flooring, walls, ceiling, etc. The only thing that wasn't updated was the windows. (In order to replace the hazy lucite windows with something clearer, it would require a full rebuild of the bus framework)

Tyler, to me replacing the window panels wouldn't seem to need so much reworking of the bus frame. How would a broken window panel get replaced?. Seems to me that all that would need to be done is to have new panels cut to the current frame demensions, possibly with new window frames. Since I am not an expert on Busses this comes from common sense. Maybe thats to easy a solution??

Hmm, that makes sense. I was thinking the same thing; however, it is probably more to it than what we think.

Any comments, Tyler?

Unfortunetly, it's a bit more than snap off snap on. Actually, it probably wouldn't really require a FULL rebuild, but when you're dabbling with all that, it only makes sense to do everything else as well. I suppose if they really wanted to, they could replace them with new lucite, but that would only be a cheaper temporary solution, as Im sure they'd crackle in time again.

Theres always a catch, and Im not suprised. I would be really suprised, with advancements in resin technology and UV coatings that a practical Lucite composite isn't available to solve the foging and crackeling problems. Makes me wonder if The Disney company had the pholosophy and staff of the 60s and 70s before the current management, WED would have created there own solution to the lucite problem them selfs

Well, it's not so much Disney, but rather the mass transit industry... *shrug* I'm really no expert on lucite, plexiglass, or other plastics...
