You've GOT to be kidding. No - wait....you couldn't make that stuff up.

Excellent update, Tyler. Thanks! Looks like we're more interested than you thought, huh?

I've really enjoyed this topic also, do you do a regular bus route or do you change. We are going down at the end of November into December and would be happy to see you as our bus driver. Your very informative and I really enjoyed this.

I'm here, there, and everywhere. Our routes are dynamic and flexible, so I never even know where Im going until I get there. I've met a tonabunch of folks from here and the DIS on my bus. Always by chance, though... it seems the ones who go out looking for me can never seem to find me. :(

Of course, if all goes well in the next few weeks, I might become even harder to find. :D

That explains why I didn't see you in June. I checked the name tag of every bus driver (well, the male ones, anyway) the entire time I was there.

And if what goes well in the next few weeks? You can't just drop a hint like that and not give us more details! Are you leaving WDW? Getting promoted? Whatever it is, I hope it's a great move for you. Good luck!

New Transportation Stuff

Tyler, this is great information. When I was at WDW about a year ago, I talked to one of the boat drivers between MK and the Wilderness Lodge. He's actually the guy who turned me onto WDWMAGIC and Project Gemini. He also hinted at the horizontal elevator ideas that have been reported on this site and that are used at the University of West Virginia. With your connections in the Transportation Department at WDW, have you heard any good info on future developments in Transportation other than just upgrading to new bus types?

Thanks for the great posts.

Much like the fabled monorail expansion... don't count on anything "wow." (Unless of course you're like me, and a VanHool AG330 makes you go crazy... lol)

Hi Tyler!

Do you have a Favorite Bus out of the Fleet that you like to Drive?
Just Curious!

:)

Bus 4805. She was the first bus with the Series 50 engine that I drove in training. (I love the purring of the S50) One of the best buses in the fleet. And, she's also the only bus that could put Mickey Ears on the destination sign. (No more... :( )

Hey Tyler! I really enjoy this thread. You know your stuff. If you get a promotion and move out of your apartment behind the MK let me know so I can get a head start on perhaps getting your old lease. Also, what type of buses do they use at Hotel Plaza Blvd. resorts? I understand they are very nice. Take care.

LOL... There are plenty of available apartments in my complex, even one across the hall from me! :)

As for Hotel Plaza, Fleetwood Limousine runs some older VanHool T945 coaches. At one time, they were nice coaches. But Fleetwood has run them into the ground. All banged up, poorly maintained, and crazy drivers have ruined a fine coach.

Cool! I thought they were VanHool but I didn't really know the specifics. I'm going to the Courtyard by Marriot in a few weeks and as long as the air works in those buses I'll be fine (cool). I recall that those buses used by the Hotel Plaza Blvd. group used to be purple in color. However, if I don't like the Hotel Plaza buses, then I'll walk down to DTD and catch a ride with you! Hope to see you during my visit although I know the chances are very slim. I wish you the best in your career!

Thank you for the handy information....I was wondering if you could answer a small question I have.....about three months ago I was in WDW taking a bus from Carribean Beach to Animal Kingdom, and during the whole trip...the bus was listing SEVERELY to the right. I'm not sure if this was a flat tire or what...but I do know the same day that a bus overheated and caught of fire...(no passengers on of course) outside the AK gate...I'm wonderin' what happened?!!!

Two unrelated problems. Buses use airbag suspensions to keep the ride smooth. What probably happened is either the leveler went out, or the bus had weak airbags.

As for the "fire" actually, that wasn't the case. Our A/C units work overtime in the hot Florida heat, and sometimes the unit freezes up. In which case, the belt starts to heat up and smoke, setting off the fire alarm. Not as big of a deal as it's made out to be.

I wouldn't count too heavily on the Articulated style buses. These would fall under the Class A license qualifications. I don't think Disney would be too interested in retraining every driver they have. It also wouldn't be too popular from a union perspective as a Class A licensed driver would create a separate group of bus drivers because of their qualifications.

If this did happen the union would require that Disney offer every driver the opportunity to train for and receive a license to drive these vehicles. IT would be a big old can of worms. Not to mention, a lot of drivers currently working at Disney would never be able to pass the meet meet the qualifications on the skills portion of the test. Something that bends in the middle is much much harder to drive than straigh vehicle.

Tyler,

Just a quick trivia question I wonder if you could answer for me. About how many busses does WDW own, and how many are operated on average on a normal day (non-peak times) Something I have always been curious about.

As far as I know, it's still covered under the Class B... the SuperBus however, that's Class A.

In reality though, Disney wouldn't get Artics only because they'd have to redesign some load zones... and that would cost too much money.
