Pretty much agree with everything. I miss the days of being able to watch Zorro and other amazing classics on the late night lineup (always watched them when we were traveling, since my home cable tier didn't carry the Disney Channel, and I wasn't normally allowed to be up that late). Good Luck Charlie is great, until they start pushing Bridget Mendler to be try and be their next big "pop star."

I don't like Good Luck Charlie, either.

I absolutely can't stand when Disney gives all their stars record deals. I can count on one hand how many of them actually had good voices.

I think fan expectations of the work to be done at DHS are a little higher than what will be reality. When I first threw in my 2 cents in the DHS Rebuild thread I noted that when I was told about what was being planned for DHS, there was heavy emphasis on value engineering and using existing facilities when possible. The budget that they wanted to stick to for this project was $600 million or below.

Avatar is a larger project, by far. $700+ million I believe.

I appreciate the benefit of recycling facilities. Really no reason to start from scratch if an existing building or attraction can be appropriately repurposed.

However, it is a bit concerning to know that the Avatar would be a larger project when Star Wars is, IMO, by far the more valuable, recognizable and marketable franchise. The Avatar attraction(s) may represent some of the best work ever by WDI. But, SW, like Potter, has a built-in audience that is just waiting to immerse themselves in a land and buy merchandise galore. The product will probably be a bigger draw.

Just seems that Disney would be throwing equal or greater resources at a SW area alone, with more being set aside for the rest of DHS.

Just my $.02.

Woah woah woah.

Disney Channel actually did this. So let's dial back the hate for about 17 minutes while you watch all of the ones that are out so far. Now you've each doubled your list of good Disney Channel shows.

Okay, the Mickey Mouse shorts. That's not enough for DC to gain my respect back. That ship sailed years ago. Still sucks.

Oh, don't get me wrong. 95% of Disney Channel is garbage. Phineas and Ferb was good, though I think it's run a little long. Still, these shorts are still awesome. Maybe things will turn around?

Yes, I enjoy the shorts, very much. They're different from the Silly Symphonies, but still good enough for me to enjoy.

I don't think things will change anytime soon. I wrote the Disney Channel Headquarters a letter, maybe three years ago, and I never got a response. I even asked the president of the Disney Channel (or someone of that same status), face to face if they had any plans of bringing back the old shows and he told me they were "working on it." -_____- That was years ago. I wouldn't complain if they'd just release their shows on DVD. They'd make money, so I don't know why they won't do it. I can't have my future children watching the kinds of shows they're airing now, so I'm hoping they decide to release them as soon as possible.:D

At least the Silly Symphonies are on DVD (Disney Treasures). I'm really happy about that.

phenix has always called it somewhat modest..the question is, what price tag is modest? 600 million?

"modest" is a very subjective term. So I'd prefer more specific information and let us each decide whether it is modest or whatever. I don't expect to learn exact details, but more information about the number of rides/shows/restaurants/etc would be more helpful than someone's opinion of a "modest" expansion. Especially from Lutz/Micechat who are going to typically downplay anything at WDW.

I hated both of those shows. Cringe-worthy writing and terrible acting.

The end of the Disney Channel began with the premiere of That's So Raven. After that, things started going downhill, fast. No more cartoons, no more Vault Disney (I was ed when all the classics from Walt's era stopped being aired), no more decent DCOMS (the last good one was probably the Even Stevens Movie), no more Mickey Mouse and certainly no more good shows. The shows nowadays treat kids like they're stupid. Anyone remember when Miranda had an eating disorder on Lizzie McGuire? Or the episode of Even Stevens where Louis and Tawny had problems telling each other how they really felt? I was watching The Color of Friendship the other night and the "N" word popped up a few times. Disney wouldn't dare to have content like that ariring, now. No, we have to watch shows with laugh tracks and stupid plots (Dog with a Blog.... SERIOUSLY?!).

The only good thing about the Disney Channel right now is Phineas and Ferb. But I miss Recess, Pepper Ann, Doug (originally a Nick show, which has also gone downhill), Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales and countless others.

As you can see, I'm VERY disappointed with the current Disney Channel. Sorry for going on and on.

I don't know what they are thinking on Disney Channel and it is not sitting right with me. We are huge Disney fans BUT, my daughter and I don't let my 9 year old granddaughter watch the Disney Channel anymore. Their live people shows have the most obnoxious and attitude-ed kids I've seen and are a bad influence. Believe it or not we had switched to Sponge Bob a year or so ago and have always had the Scooby Doo DVD's on hand. They are much more appropriate. Sponge Bob is very goofy yes, but he always ends up doing the right thing, wants to be good, and tries to help everyone. Scooby is entertaining without all the latest slang, and they all try to do the right thing, too. Just my 2 cents.

Youknow, we watch a lot of Disney Channel on our WDW trips (or XD)...mostly because it seems like other channels don't work so well (I believe Disney uses DirecTV...? not sure about this)...but anyhow...I've noticed the same.

Some of the shows are fine, but others...the kids are just snotty. It ain't Kid's Incorporated! <grin>

I agree. If you're into cartoon shows that deal with doing the right thing, see if you can get a hold on Hey Arnold. Great show for kids and morals.

What about Gravity Falls or the upcoming Wander Over Yonder?

I don't watch either.

I was looking forward to Girl Meets World... Until I found out Disney Channel was airing it. That completely lowered my expectations. I will still watch the first episode, but I'm not expecting something great.

The only times I watch the DC is when an old movie, like Zenon or Smart House comes on. I'll occasionally watch Phineas and Ferb.

Take these for what they are worth.

Imagination CMs have been told that their pavilion will be 'temporarily' be closing this winter. I have no idea why or for how long, but since they don't do refurbs we can rule that out.

Also, some folks in marketing have already been talking about what they'll do for Christmas 2014 sans the Ozzy and Sharon Lightacular.

----the Osborne lights have nothing to do with ozzy its a family from sylvania that sponsers the lights because there children love christmas. The main foudner Jennings osborne died a few years back.

Couple of questions....

1. It seems that the $600M is the total budget for DHS, right? Not just Star Wars, right? That seems pretty unrealistic for an attention grabbing build out, considering how much Cars Land alone cost in DCA. Yes, I know a chunk of the Cars Land cost was for RSR and that doesn't seem like it's coming to DHS, but how much would that save. Is there enough to do any sort of quality with both SW and Cars Land for $600M at Disney's bloated budgets?

2. What existing facilities would be reused? Food service places, sure, so that would mean Backlot Express and maybe Pizza Planet and Mama Melrose and maybe Studio Catering/Backlot Canteen or ABC Commissary/Sci Fi. And there's buildings like Sounds Dangerous/American Idol and maybe Muppetvision. But most of the stuff would be a big demo and rebuilt -- bike coaster over IJ stunt show, whatever gets built for Cars over the current LMA/Backlot Tour.

Ironically, the one easiest reuse I can think of is putting Monstropolis in the current SoA streets and yet that doesn't seem to be in the plans.

3. Is this expansion even going to be a net positive for attractions? The park needs a bunch of new attractions -- especially with FP+ coming -- but my concern is that this will only result in a net gain of maybe 1 or 2 attractions given how many are being shut down.

See, IMHO, if they want to invest $600M in DHS, I would just put it all into Star Wars and make it mind blowing, plus build something in Soundstage 1 (Monsters Inc or whatever). And leave Backlot Tour and LMA running for now. Then, once Star Wars is up and running, you reassess and then invest -- the proper amount -- in building Cars or whatever on LMA/Backlot/SoA. That way, the park can actually operate with enough (ha!) attractions while the SW build occurs.

If they are going to shut down half the park for a rebuild, then need to make it mind blowing and I don't see how $600M would do that considering what $1.2B bought in DCA.
