Two insignificantly tiny food observations from 12/1

#2: Casey's no longer has the thin, shoestring French fries. You remember they had those thin ones they gave you in a cup? The ones that were always rather sad, limp and never very good? Well, they've switched. They use the same fries that the other counter service places offer. A little fatter cut and now served in the same trays that the burger/fries combo is; the little "boat" shaped ones.

wow... Earlier this month (dec 1) I got the older style frys.... this is a huge change... but i liked the cup better... it worked when you got 2 drinks... and 2 dogs...

I have not seen the buns yet, but I am guessing they are still made out of bleached and enriched flour which really is not much better than a white.

I'm sure everyone knows these already but I hadn't been out to the 'World since May.

#1: WDW has switched over to whole wheat buns for their burgers. Both Cosmic Rays in MK and American Pavilion in Epcot had whole wheat buns on their burgers. I have to say though, they weren't that good. They had a "stale" taste to them. I don't mind whole wheat as a rule, but there's good whole wheat and bad. These were definitely on the poorer side of the taste factor for me.

Oh and I didn't get a pic, but the regular sized drinks were being served in holiday-themed cups. The large size drinks were in the "Year of a Million Dreams" ones. They also had a souvenir holiday mug you could buy. Saw it at Casey's. It wasn't everywhere and in fact, MGM had a different one that lit up instead. What's nice is the one I picked up from Casey's has a removable bottom and the CM's filled that part with ice so your drink didn't get watered down.

So yeah, utterly useless minor observations but hey, thought I'd share anyway.

Well, how were the crowds last weekend? I stayed away from MK for the first time in 3 years.

I was only there Saturday but MK was the busiest. We hit MK, Epcot and MGM in the one day. Epcot had about 50 minute wait for Test Track when I walked past the sign. I think Soarin' was probably closer to 80 though I can't recall off the top of my head.

MK was busy in clumps. HM was pulling in a big line most of the day (I got in it and it was 20 minutes but it quickly jumped to 40. They even had the line loop back on itself in the queue which I'd never seen done before. Normally it's just a big mass of people. This cut it in lines.)

It was busy but not unbearable. I tried to stay away from Main Street because that was the main source of traffic congestion but there were a few times we got stopped because anything coming to film on Main Street had to go down the parade route from Frontierland. Caused some congestion when they wouldn't let you cross and such.

Still, good to get back. Six months without Disney is just cruel and unusual punishment!

I think maybe they just need to swtich to a better quality whole grain bun. I've had them before, with a grilled chicken sandwhich and it was really good. I can't remember what the restaurant was though. But they do exist.

We went to MGM Sat night and it was quite crowded. The Streets of America area was packed shoulder to shoulder. There was a poor tiny cast member trying to get people to keep to the right so there was some traffic flow, but few were listening. Lights were still wonderful.

Last week when we were there, my wheat bun at Casey's broke in half, so I asked for a new one, they got me a new bun, and it also had a stale, crumbly effect. Pecos Bill's hamburger buns were also wheat and were tasteless and dry. This ruined the food at two places we always eat and look forward to...now? Not so much. I eat wheat bread when I'm home. Come on, Disney, let us have some treats when we are on vacation!!!

Then your going to have some people complain like the ones that order a double wopper with a diet coke that says the food makes me fat. I guess you can't please everyone. I think also the wheat buns don't last because less perservitives... just a guess

I ate at Caseys and have no iodea if it was wheat or white or what have you - but i suspect wheat.

If that tells you anything, i didn't notice tyhe change at all. Neither did my other half, and we're the type to complain loudly about the lack of colored sprinkles.

Wait, where'd the colored sprinkles go?

Those were my favorite fries in the world. And I don't mean the World, as in WDW... I mean... the best fries, ever. I'm so sad now...

Disney burgers are one of things i realy look forward to when going to WDW. The first last time that we went we checked in after an incredably long flight dropped our thing at the room and said...........lets go get a burger from the food court. I could have easyly fallen asleep for 12 hours but I just loved thos burgers so much. I hope they re consider and give you a choice about the buns. Lets start a petition, I have 4 1/2 months till I go anyway.

Actually, a diet drink or water does make a difference. almost half of the calories taken in for a value meal type of lunch/dinner comes from the drink, usually regular soda. Certainly a whopper or big mac or any type of burger+fries type of meal isn't healthy in general but the soda is often 35-50% of the calorie intake. I know because watching calorie intake helped DH and me lose quite a few pounds.

Sad to hear about the nasty wheat buns. I always make sandwiches on wheat bread. When we have BBQs we buy wheat buns (and white for guests who are afraid of wheat). There are plenty on the market that are fantastic. This isn't new so I am surprised Disney couldn't find something good. Contract was probably like the government and their contracting ideas: go cheapest at all costs. Maybe they are finding they are getting what they paid for.
