TTA Refurbishment on schedule?

That's correct, and it been painted like that for many years. In fact, I believe its mentioned in John Hench's book.

It really was just a practical solution to the smoke from the trains staining the white paint.

Steam is vaporized water which is clear. It doesn't have anything in it to stain the paint black. Wouldn't the black soot staining the paint be from the diesel engines that power the steam trains?

Or they could just expand this theming to the whole land which also has a nice futuristic look.

Agreed! I don't know why people keep complaining that TL is "dated" when the avenue of the planets still looks terrific. The look just needs to be expanded to the rest of the land. Oh yeah, and SM refurbed properly and bringing back AE and the old TTA narration would be nice too....

There are no "diesel engines" powering the steam trains. The steam engines on site burn fuel oil , used to heat water in a boiler, and make steam. The exhaust from the fire is sent through the smokestack. While WDW's engines rarely display very much smoke, there is still some, and will stain a white painted surface.

The steam trains already run on Diesel as it is. The diesel engine replaced the old coal firebox that those trains came with and it heats up the water to create the steam to make the trains go around. Removing the whole Steam Engines from those priceless locos would be a crime!

If you want to ride a steam train the way it used to be, Dollywood is the place. That theme park in the Smoky mountains of Tennessee has two beautiful narrow gauged (3ft like Disney) locos. One is a 2-8-2 Baldwin locomotive from 1938 and the other is a lighter Baldwin 2-8-2 from 1943. They run one train at a time on a 2.5 miles loop up to the top of the northern mountain of the park. The most beautiful thing? They still run on coal! You got the authentic large black cloud of smoke when it powers up the mountain.

There is a paste from the trains being replaced thread. They run bio diesel.

The post is somewhat incorrect. Regardless of what fuel is burned, they are still external combustion steam locomotives. The steam is what provides the propulsion, not the diesel. Steam engines can burn many different types of fuel, the most common are coal, fuel oil and wood. Those that burn wood are not called "wood locomotives", nor are the ones that burn coal referred to as "coal locomotives", they are steam locomotives. Here is a picture of a Union Pacific Challenger, that was converted to burn fuel oil in the 1980's. No one in their right mind would call it a "diesel engine".

There is still smoke, which will stain the white surface. It is a steam locomotive, but something has to combust to heat the boiler.

Never said they were not steam engines. I simply said that steam cannot stain surfaces black. Steam is colorless. It is the soot from the bio being burnt which comes out as exhaust and has black particulates.

OK here is the best way to keep the squabbling to a minimum, Listen Disney, Bulldoze all of MK starting with Tomorrowland. Would that make everyone happy?

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Yes, the crane is in place and slowly Astro is starting to make its return. So far what you can see of the attraction, it looks clean and almost brand new!
Did they replace the elevators? Or the rockets? Or put theming around the carousel? Or make it less loud? I have so many questions!

Elevators did NOT get replaced or rebuilt. There may have been some maintenance work, but it looks like they were just repainted. The attraction looks exactly the same based on what can be seen on the ground level. I wouldn't expect any major modifications.
