Not one single relaxing place in the MK...? I disagree... I find the TTA to be quite a relaxing place... and there are a number of comfy benches (designated or impromptu) and grassy spots where one can sit and watch the people go by.

I've never made the trip to TSI, but a lot of people talk about in fondly and it would be sad to see it redeveloped for them, but as other posters put it, this is a prime spot for eventual development and unfortunately less of an attraction for future generations.

The peoplemover is relaxing, but it's different than sitting in rocking chairs in the shade watching all the chaos going on across ROA and watching the Liberty Belle go by. There's not one place you can get that kind of private relaxation going on.

Your source? Sorry but it's hard to take you seriously without a source considering we have CM's quoted as saying it is done. And I haven't heard anything on refurbs though it is entirely possible they are doing that. But what revamping of the paint brushes would be required exactly? They are paint brushes...that are hidden...don't exactly see what they could change other than changing the "prize." While I don't think they would build an E ticket attraction or really any attraction on the island (think they would honestly have to fill in some of the little lake to do that), I don't think it would be about capacity at all. Attractions do add capacity though no, maybe not as much as a full island. The biggest factor would be again, as always, expense.

I don't actually know what is going on with the paintbrushes, but I do know that Fort Langhorn is being refurbished. My theory on the paintbrushes - and this is just a theory - is that due to Splash and Thunder breaking down multiple times a day, they're doing whatever they can to keep the FP lines down when they do reopen from their downtimes; hence, no more fastpasses for paintbrushes. Maybe it's temporary? Again...all speculation on my part.

If the paintbrushes resulted in many many families getting Fast Passes, I could maybe see where your coming from but the TSI paintbrushes resulted in, in reality, so few passes being given away, I couldn't really see the numbers given away affecting the length of the FP lines, breakdowns or no breakdowns. :( I think they are just sadly gone.

They hand out FPs like candy at holloween all over the park. Add to that things like Child Swap, etc. A few dozen FPs from TSI weren't a blip on anyone's FP counter.

I'm curious? What's a paintbrush? Like, literally a paintbrush that was hidden to give FP?
Pic of one of these or more details?

Exactly... This was my son finding one. You'd give it to the CM on the raft, and they'd give you a FP (we got one for each member of the family).

Come to think of it, I wonder whether they also had a problem with guests taking paintbrushes home as souvenirs.

I had never played this particular game on Tom Sawyer Island, but I do remember back in 1997 when there was the Tom Sawyer Island Scavanger Hunt run by Cuzin Elton. I don't recall a backstory to the game, he just gave you a map of the island and the flip side had pictures of objects you had to locate on the island and write down where you found them. The first person back to the starting location (varied from game to game) recieved a handfull of backdoor passes to Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain and a VHS copy of "Tom and Huck". Here's a scan of an old backdoor pass I recently found in my archves!

The paintbrush searching game was always fun for the kids and because when they were looking for the paintbrush it forced them to slow down and see more things on the island as we walked around. We have found the paintbrushes before but most trips we never found one.

We found one years ago but didn't know about the game. We just figured a CM forgot it the night before.

Fast Pass v1.0!!

Actually, the true forerunner of Fast Pass would be the Adventureland Challenge's Colonel Currency:

I'd say Tom Sawyer Island Scavanger Hunt Pass would be about V1.5.

"Colonel Wayne McSwagger" -- heh. I like stuff like this, especially when there's some effort to theme it to the area in which it's given out. Along similar lines, I just saw a picture of a "good behavior citation" that guests can receive on Buena Vista Street in DCA.

Even freebies like the maraglyphics decoder cards (I'm sure I still have mine somewhere) and the 2000 Autopia refurb driver's licenses, though advertising the services of AT&T and Chevron, were nice little souvenirs.

I wish WDW would do more of this kind of thing...

I think that this sucks but with fastpasses becoming more strict they cant give them away. And most other things cost them some kind of money. Maybe an exclusive Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card?

This is such a shame. I always looked for the paintbrushes every time I went over to Tom Sawyers Island, but to no avail. I wish I would've at least found a paintbrush one time.

I would do the paintbrush hunt, even if there wasn't a prize. In my opinion, the real prize is the sense of accomplishment when you find one.

I guess this is another example of "declining by degrees."

I wonder what it's like to have a brain that rationalizes every bad decision by WDW management?
It's a very unfortunate disorder.

No reason at all that FPs, or a "priority entrance" card couldn't be awarded. None. The enforced return times are meaningless in this instance.
This is a needless cut.
Any attempt to say otherwise is just making excuses for people who don't deserve it and haven't earned it.
