TSI Paintbrush hunt officially done

Definitely another example of "declining by degrees."

Forgive me because it's been 20 years since I've been to TSI - how close is that to Aunt Polly's?
It's not. The Fort is the northern end of where guests can access, Aunt Polly's the south end.

Nowhere near. Here is a photo thanks to Expcroofto.

That....makes no sense whatsoever. How does taking away a paintbrush game point even remotely towards WDW expanded? If they were going to demolish Tom Sawyer's Island I guess they could be trying to "ween" people off that attraction by taking away an aspect many people loved about it but there is absolutely no evidence they are doing anything with TSI. I wouldn't classify the disappearance of Snow White exactly as small either and we already know what is replacing her. Another meet and greet. Woo... And we have a pretty good idea what is going in at Camp MM...Avatar...the only really remotely big announced project for Disney. All else is still smoke and mirrors as they are relatively unsubstantiated rumors.

I'm no judge on DL as I haven't been there in a while but last time I was there, I didn't notice too many things showing there age. Some, but then the same goes for things in the MK too. It's still magical, of course it is, but that doesn't mean there aren't problems. It's good you see more potential in NFE than what is going in right now and I will give you that even Disney knows it...the original plan was for an 800 million overhaul of the place...then they chopped the budget by a good 500 million. But the question is, even if Disney knows it has more potential, will they actually ever do anything to realize it? I'm guessing not anytime soon, they are done for now once Mine Train is completed, at least not without a change in leadership at the corporate level.
That is an excellent point! Do you think Iger retiring will affect it? o_O

I don't know. I think it will all depend on who they hire and if they have "vision" and like the theme parks. A John Lasseter for the east coast side of Disney would be great. I think there is a better chance with an outside hire which is why I was encouraged by the hiring of Alan Horn (from Warners) in the Studio division. Hopefully they will look outside for Iger's replacement as well. If they hire within, I think we get more same old, same old.

Thats a shame about th epaintbrushes i wanted to try find one, and i never found out about it untill big thunder closed boohoo! I think there is more to than the fastpass thing, i remember reading that people kept stealing the paintbrushes to! I think TSI is probably going to chnage quite a lot, i cant even remember the last time i went over to the island and im pretty sure diney think its a logistical nightmare to get people back and forth from the island! :)

The TSI CM I spoke to last week said they canceled it due to guests looking "too hard" for the paint brushes. Such as, climbing over path railings and looking in the trees, climbing on top of items to reach high places, and other safety issues. Personally. I think the reason people were looking so hard is because the CMs were hiding the brushes "too hard".

I'm not sure I buy the fastpass window as a truly valid reason, can't they give out the "all day" fastpasses like you receive when an attraction goes down while your in line? Just a thought.

I'll definitely be sad to see it go, yet another small piece of magic lost at WDW.

Color me disappointed... :(
We hadn't done this with our daughter (she's only 5) as of yet. Were hoping to do it when she'd appreciate it and be a little more detailed in her search.

Though, I do wonder how many paintbrushes get "lost" to not being turned back in.

We did that only we were playing manhunt. They should expect it with the whole island being perfect for such activities.

This is not true. The paint brushes are not done. The program is still being revamped. The entire island is undergoing a refurb in parts. The fort is first. The island is an important part of the Magic Kingdom and the size of the land allows a bump in the attendance capacity for the park. If an E ticket attraction was built on the land it would cause the capacity to take a dip so I doubt that park officials would allow that.

I don't buy the Fastpass window as a valid reason either. There couldn't be nearly enough "all day" Fastpasses given out via the paintbrush hunt to affect guest flow at the Fastpass attractions -- especially not when you consider how many "all day" Fastpasses are routinely distributed over the course of an average day for all the usual reasons.

And it also doesn't make sense to have to wean guests off the paintbrushes in anticipation of large changes coming to TSI sometime well in the future. The paintbrush activity is something they can stop on less than a day's notice, so there's no reason they couldn't continue doing it up until the day before they shut the island down for any such changes.

Especially in light of the issues with the Casey Jr. engine and Tigger bounce pads, I have to believe that the fear of guests hurting themselves has to be the primary, if not sole, reason for discontinuing this activity.

Your source? Sorry but it's hard to take you seriously without a source considering we have CM's quoted as saying it is done. And I haven't heard anything on refurbs though it is entirely possible they are doing that. But what revamping of the paint brushes would be required exactly? They are paint brushes...that are hidden...don't exactly see what they could change other than changing the "prize." While I don't think they would build an E ticket attraction or really any attraction on the island (think they would honestly have to fill in some of the little lake to do that), I don't think it would be about capacity at all. Attractions do add capacity though no, maybe not as much as a full island. The biggest factor would be again, as always, expense.

Ooooooooooooooooooooh that makes no sense...what a fun treasure hunt it was....having enforced return times makes no sense for a reason, you could use your prize anytime....not like it's a large load of peeps running into the line...one or two families at most. It was magical to be on the first raft and hope hope hope you spotted one. Getting to go in front of line for my favorite ride?!?! PRICELESS!!!:D I really thought it was just about the closure of BTM. They stopped doing it day before shutdown...I was on the island that morning....nothing to be had....but day before it was still hopping with a dozen searchers in the "know"....

Tink needs to get her wings flapping and write write write to ....whom? Willing to take up collection for paint brush supply...o_O

If everyone is upset about this then you need to tell Disney about it. Either email or send letters complaining about it. Maybe if enough people complain they might just bring it back.

I would be so sad to see TSI go. There's not ONE single relaxing place in the entire park. ...

Not one single relaxing place in the MK...? I disagree... I find the TTA to be quite a relaxing place... and there are a number of comfy benches (designated or impromptu) and grassy spots where one can sit and watch the people go by.

I've never made the trip to TSI, but a lot of people talk about in fondly and it would be sad to see it redeveloped for them, but as other posters put it, this is a prime spot for eventual development and unfortunately less of an attraction for future generations.
