True Love Conquers All - Disney Fairytale Wedding & Disneymoon Sept 2011

I wake up every morning wondering if it was a dream. It was my dream come true – I got married at the Wedding Pavilion in Walt Disney World. I married my best friend who shares my love for Walt Disney and his legacy. I am just the luckiest girl in the world!

How It All Began

My name is Shelley and like many little girls, I always dreamed of being a princess. Here’s a picture of 15 year old me donning the Bride ears back in 1996. I love this picture for so many reasons but I mainly miss the 2 floor Centorium. I like Mouse Gear but I miss my Centorium :(

When I was in my mid 20’s I became jaded towards love. One night in September 2006, I went out with some of my girlfriends for a girls’ night out. I remember telling them that I just wanted to meet a nice guy who liked Disney. Yep, those were my criteria: nice guy, likes Disney. We proceeded to our favorite bar and it was still a bit early so the bar wasn’t very full. While I was ordering drinks, a guy came up and started talking to us. The funny thing was, he was all by himself! It’s not every day that a guy has the guts to walk up to a group of girls and just start talking. At first I ignored him thinking he was just another jerk. But then he spotted my Kingdom Hearts cigarette case and matching lighter. (Kingdom Hearts is a video game series, sorry – it is the best video game series to grace God’s green earth. If you love Disney and video games, you must play this series.) I remember the face he made at me, like he couldn’t believe we were meeting. He also loved the Kingdom Hearts series and his name was Jason. I remember so much of that night because it changed my life forever. We talked about everything Disney and he told me that his favorite Disney movie was The Sword in the Stone. I found that very interesting because that is not a well-known animated classic. I told him I had a cat and that I had named her after a character in Aristocats. After a few guesses, he said “Oh I know, so you named her Duchess?” (RIP Duchess, we lost her this past June  ). I couldn’t believe I had met my nice guy who liked Disney. I don’t think we ever really dated; we were always in a serious relationship from that point forward.

In 2009 we went on our very first Disney World trip together with my Mom (see the trip report here). At this time, my career was not going well and neither of us had been to Disney World since 2003. This trip changed our lives forever and both of us have made major career strides since then. I have also lost a ton of weight since then :D Let’s take a stroll down memory lane…

We went back a little over a year later in September 2010 (see the trip report here). On my 29-and-12-month birthday, Jason proposed to me while we were flying over London on Peter Pan’s Flight during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, September 21, 2010. I loved his proposal, it was absolutely perfect!

I'm A Nerd

So I'm a huge web development nerd and I just updated my Wedding Ceremony Blog Post with a photo slideshow connected to my Flickr stream! It includes every single picture taken of the ceremony by Disney Photography and my family. There are over 200 of just the ceremony LOL.

I'm writing up the reception now! :sohappy:

You look so beautiful!! And that picture of Jason while you're walking down the aisle is the best, I love when photographers get the grooms face at that moment

Oh. My. Goosebumps!!

I made notes because I'm a total dork like that :p
  • I was that same teenage girl wearing the old Minnie Bride ears back in 1996. I was obsessed with being a Disney bride and honeymooning there...so much so that I bought the bride ears as a teenager in 1999 just knowing they'd come in handy one day.
  • Love that you wore strapless clothes before the wedding. I'm always obsessed with the tan lines I might obtain while in WDW. Outfits must be planned out accordingly!
  • Girl, you had my dream room at the GF. I've always dreamed of staying there with a castle view room!
  • I can't say enough about how stunning you are! And your handsom groom! I absolutely adore the shot of him watching you walk in.

Sigh. So romantic. Way to go, now my mascara is running! ;)

I can not wait to see/read the rest!

Day 4 The Wedding Reception

Jason and I left the Wedding Pavilion and got into the limo to go to our reception at the White Hall Patio Room at the Grand Floridian. We were so happy that all the stress was finally over and we could go party with Mickey and Minnie!

We had an escape wedding so the reception was only 30 minutes and included a toast by my sister, Tricia, followed by cake cutting and dancing with Mickey and Minnie!

When we walked in, we were announced and everybody applauded! I was just excited for cake at that point, remember all I had to eat all day was that measly blueberry muffin!

My sister began her speech with "Por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas" It was hilarious! We all got a kick out of it and she did a really good job.

After the toast, Mickey and Minnie arrived!! Ah I just wish I could go back and tell my 12 year old self that I did end up having Mickey and Minnie at my wedding. It's what I've always wanted :)

Wedding-0243.jpg

It's amazing how Mickey and Minnie "told" us what to do without saying a single word. They motioned to the knife, put our hands on top of it, and then we cut the cake! It was a delicious yellow cake with chocolate mousse. I ended up eating it for breakfast every day of our honeymoon!

More Wedding Reception...

I love this shot! I've seen it before in so many wedding reports and now it's mine!!

Wedding-0247.jpg

Yay now it's time to party!! The violinist was very good and he played things that were not on my list of song choices but it worked out very nicely! At one point he played the Pirates of the__Caribbean__theme and I loved it!!

Wedding-0248.jpg

This is one of my favorites, I look so over the top ridiculously happy!!

Wedding-0249.jpg

Aww just the girls! We actually had a "conversation" with Minnie about her awesome bling!

So happy together...

Wedding-0259.jpg

Then Mickey and Minnie motioned for us to come up front again for a special surprise! They gave us a really nice Disney Fairytale Weddings watch set with a Cinderella Castle design!

Wedding-0265.jpg

It was like Sophie's Choice selecting which photos to go next! Luckily, the entire photo library is included in a slideshow at the end of this post! During these next pictures with Mickey, Minnie was standing off to the side with Jason covering her eyes!

We had to get a princess pose with Minnie!

Wedding-0271.jpg

Wedding-0272.jpg

Then it was Mickey's turn to cover his eyes!

Wedding-0275.jpg

Of course the girls had to get autographs! I'm afraid we're getting close to them feeling like they're too old for that sort of thing :(

30 minutes goes pretty quickly when you are having fun with Mickey and Minnie! They hugged us and waved goodbye. Then it was time to leave! Our wedding planner, Vita, gave us a few more presents including a Disney Fairytale Honeymoons tote bag which I LOVED because I collect tote bags! She also gave us our wedding video! I really thought they would mail it to us, I didn't know that we would get it right after the reception!

We walked from the White Hall Patio Room as a group back to the lobby of the Grand Floridian. On the way, we got to pass the bus stop and people ooed and aahed and started applauding as we walked by. I loved every minute! First we stopped off in our room to drop off our goodies and then we went down to the grand staircase for some photos!

I got all kinds of teary taking these pictures because this was another thing I had dreampt of my entire life. Standing on the grand staircase at the Grand Floridian in my wedding dress with my husband. Life just doesn't get any better!

"Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters..."

Then it was time for us all to part ways :( That's ok, we still had the Illuminations Dessert Party to look forward to that night!

Stay tuned for the full Illuminations Dessert Party Recap complete with food ! And stay tuned for the full honey -er, I mean Disneymoon, and bridal portrait sessions at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on day 7!

I also have a slideshow over on my blog with every picture including Disney photography and family photos. I can't post stuff like that here because there's just no support for it :( Anyway, check it out!

Love every single picture! It's always so awesome to see the happiness of a bride on her wedding day and I must say my friend, your pictures don't hide how you felt! :D *contened sigh* You were definitely having your magical moment. the portrait session in the wedding pavilion is very swoon-worthy. The two of you look stunning and very, very much in love.

I love that your sister opened with the monorail announcement. Too funny!

The pictures at your reception are adorable. I adore the one where you're kissing Mickey's nose. :)

The one shot of you alone on the grand staircase, where you can see the sparkle in your dress? Omg...total princess vibe!

Can't wait for the rest!!

Thanks Erin :D The Wedding Pavilion portrait session was just the tip of the iceburg...the Magic Kingdom session was wonderful but the EPCOT portraits are definitely our favorite!! Can't wait to get to them :)

I love the monorail spiel! It's one of my favorite things and I have a few t shirts with it! I loved that Trish started her speech with it. I wish we had the reception video taped!

OMG yes the sparkle picture! I love that one too, before it was taken I did the bit from The Princess and the Frog where Charlotte is standing at the top of the stairs at the ball and she sprinkles pixie dust on herself :)

Omg thank you! That is the nicest compliment I've ever received :) I have to give props to Patricia LeJeune, she really did a great job. I had fake eyelashes and they were really light, I could hardly feel them! I think they made a big difference in pictures :sohappy:
