Tropical Storm Hilary - Possible Disneyland Impacts?

Got this alert on my phone. Another exaggeration. We shook more the last time I went on Indy with friends than with the baby earthquake we just had. A 5.5 on the Richter scale:

Wife and I received USGS ShakeAlert “earthquake detected” alerts at the exact moment the earthquake happened. Haven’t experienced that before.

Anyway, here in Pasadena, I’d characterize the quake as akin to a less intense moment on Star Tours.

There’s a lot I love about living on the east coast, but all this natural disaster talk has got me missing the excitement of living in California.

I'd say living in Nevada may lessen your chances of an earthquake, hurricane, brush wildfires , tornado.

I'd rather be in an earthquake/wildfire-prone area than one where hurricanes roam TBH. Hurricanes are the disaster to top all disasters, destruction and casualty-wise.

You know it's bad when living in Atlanta doesn't offer you much protection against hurricanes, especially if you're in a plateaued region.

I felt the earthquake start and just started laughing. Truly Californians are just built different.
Representing the best and worst of humanity.

Lol what part of Los Angeles are you in?

Pasadena. You?

The earthquake was barely noticeable over here. Just a moment of absurdity in a day of sitting around, waiting for the storm.

The news media is no doubt loving this opportunity to fear-monger. But to be fair, my neighborhood/street flood every time we get rain. So I’m expecting a mess, regardless of the storm’s severity. Time will tell if the flooding reaches the level of true disaster.

The Atlantic hurricanes must be laughing their butts off right now. First tropical system to hit SoCal in almost a century and there's nothing but memes and jokes online right now.

Of course, the day's not over yet.

I’m in South Los Angeles, not too far from Downtown.

Yes, I agree. My streets flood as well, but that’s business as usual. The way they’ve been talking about it, you would think God was bringing a second flood upon us. Lines at grocery stores have been long with people buying a bunch of stuff as if the rapture was coming. Ridiculous.

San Fernando Valley here. I didn't get the alert on my phone but I did feel it. I honestly wondered for a moment if it was the wind rattling the house! Incidentally, I have a non-working grandfather clock in the living room, which I've dubbed the earthquake detector. It's no help telling time, but the vibration of a quake always sets off the chimes!
