Tropical Storm Hilary - Possible Disneyland Impacts?

No winds here. Just light rain and I'm only fifteen miles from Disneyland. I hate how the media always makes everything into a "we're all going to die" situation. It's just a simple summer rain storm. The coasts might have a little flooding and flash floods in the mountains but that happens with every storm. Heck we went through four months of solid rain at the beginning of the year.

First, the storm hasn't even arrived in SoCal yet. Those winds will gradually pick up as it approaches. Secondly, SoCal almost never gets 3 to 6 inches of rain all at once. Combine that with lack of wetlands to absorb said rainfall, not to mention mudslides, and it makes sense why everyone is worried about communities being submerged underwater a la Harvey (I don't think it will go that route, at least in most of the LA metro {Inland Empire is another matter}, but still).

You can doom and gloom all you want. We were in sever drought conditions last October. The water level was so low that people at Big Bear were finding skeletons of people drown there by mob hits in the 1930s. By February we made it all back from constant showers over four months.
I think we can handle a summer storm. We've had summer storms before. The radar says it will dissipate about 5am tomorrow.

There are already reports of roads in LA being flooded. Only going to get worse as the day goes on.

The main bulk is coming through soon this evening. I just drove up from Dan Diego. But for now-

The storm's been dissipating a little quicker than planned, though I'm worried how long it will linger there because the drainage systems and levees for most SoCal communities weren't built for 4-10 inches of rainfall.

For now, this doesn't look like a Harvey-level situation.

I just got onto my comp to take a look into today/tonights expectations... yeah... she has really dissipated and grown chaotic with some rain here and there... even the flash flood warnings are only going for another 5 hours (until 745p) at this moment.

I'm declaring a nothing burger. A MASSIVE nothing burger. Once again media has shown their ability to make the public distrust them even more and become less prepared for when an actual disaster happens...

Better to be alerted and it end up being a nothing burger than being burned alive in Lahaina like hundreds in the past week.

I’m waiting until Tuesday to be really sure, but yeah… I agree with you, so far. It’s been raining here, but that’s it. Even on the news today, they had to clarify the difference between a weather warning and a weather watch.

Enough false alarms (without context that the general public will not get) causes the public to ignore warnings in the future. Media/social media conversation will not provide necessary context to this situation.
