Tropical Hideaway

The new Disneyland update on MiceChat has a lot of nice pictures of the inside patio of Aladdin's Oasis. Honestly had no idea it was such a nice and detailed space. Such a shame it was completely wasted and almost never used.

Ya it’s pretty nice and most people have no clue it’s there. I doubt the architecture of what replaces it will be nicer than what’s there now. However, it will fit in better with the surrounding area and create more capacity. I was also thinking, as much as bringing back the Tahitian Terrace, other dinner show or Trader Sams to this area would be great and bring a unique experience to DL, it probably wouldn’t be the best idea for Capacity. Having 10-15 tables of people sitting for two hours eating or nursing a drink or two probably isn’t the best use of space.

I gotta say, as much of a fan of tiki culture that I am, it's a shame that this fine Arabian architecture is going to be torn down. Why the heck didn't they just remove the stage/wall to expose the jungle cruise?

For a park in desperate need of extra capacity, It’s hard to believe they couldn’t figure out a clever way to use this space.

The more and more I re-read the press release/blog post thing, the more I think this literally is just going to be a bunch of tables set up around a fruit stand. At the very least, hopefully it's a decent spot to enjoy a Dole Whip. Right now, the only option is really finding a sacred spot within the Tiki Room waiting area (or inside if you're really lucky) which is fully dependent on how the wait in line intersects with the show cycle. I always hope I time it so I can enjoy my DW during the show, but it's really a roll of the dice! Even if you're just a few minutes off, you're kinda screwed because those things melt pretty fast on a warm day at the park.

I don't dislike Arabian architecture, but I've always thought it totally clashes with all its surroundings. Makes no sense being wedged in between tiki and jungle. They've been able to pull it off more successfully at other parks (Paris and MK to a lesser degree), but it's too crammed in there at DL.

I don’t think you re far off. Best case scenario we get some Hawaiian BBQ (or other appropriate tasty snack), some dole whips and an AA.

EDIT: I guess Bengal BBQ has the BBQ thing covered eventhough it’s not Hawaiian BBQ and just ok.

You're gonna hate this idea, but doesn't it seem like clearing away that building, or modifying it, to make a straight path from the Hub into Adventureland would dramatically help capacity and flow? The nexus of the Dole Whip stand, nearby restrooms, a path to/from Frontierland, and The Tiki Room entrance with most traffic funneled across a narrow little bridge is a big part of the problem. It's kind of weird that WDI designed the land's entrance to lead directly into a building, which requires guests to make an immediate left to access Adventureland's main thoroughfare.

I agree it’s not the best but it’s one of those charming DL things that like a double edged sword. Crowd flow is terrible in that area but there is very intimate feel which I think is one of the main reasons people love Adventureland. (Of course when you re getting banged in the ankles with someone’s stroller I’m not sure you can appreciate that)

Your idea is great for crowd flow but thematically would kind of destroy the feeling of being in the Jungle. Seeing the Jungle Cruise boats from the right outside the hub? Maybe if they kept the wall blocking out the Jungle Cruise? With your idea, Wouldn’t they have to get rid of the Jolly Holiday too?

Anyway I think it’s an interesting idea and I would love to see a design of how that could work.

One of the things I really love about WDW's MK is the additional little pathways and bridges that connect around the hub's entrances to the lands that give some relief to the congestion. It's too bad we don't have the room for that here...

I have some issues with these bridges. First of all, they're ugly. Second, they don't really provide any kind of shortcut. It's just an alternate path. You can walk between the AL and LS entrance areas, but it's no quicker than just walking through the hub and taking the main entrance. Now, the cut-through alleyway from AL to FL is a masterpiece of theme park design.

Yeah, not really so much about shortcuts as much as it is another way to go if the crowds seem too thick the other way. I like the bridges though, don't think they are ugly at all!

I don't know if it would "destroy" it as much as change it. Having a clear direct path into Adventureland seems to work fine at other magic kingdoms.

I'm not sure you'd have a clear view of the Jungle Cruise from the Hub. Besides, you can see the Frontierland riverboat landing, the Matterhorn, and great deal of Tomorrowland from the Hub, so what would be wrong with a bit of jungle cruise showing?

Destroy was probably a strong word But I was talking about being able to see the JC boats and not the path in general. The frontier Land River boats are different in that they are huge boats that are seen all along the ROA. To be able to see them from NOS/ Frontierland and Critter Country works thematically with those lands. Seeing a Jungle Cruise boat that supposed be on the nile river from the hub - not so much. Then again, we have the Astro orbiter in the hub. Which I think is pretty much universally hated. But ya, I don’t think you’d have a clear view either plus they could always keep that wall up.

Sometimes It feels like you re egging me on and want to see how many characters it takes to defend my position.
