Tropical Hideaway

As absolutely delighted as I am that this appears to have no IP character connections, I might have to downgrade my approval rating to "wait and see". The skipper thing makes me nervous, and by the time we see another piece of concept art the AA tiki bird will probably be a guy holding a bird puppet.

And honestly why would an AA 1963 tiki bird be a draw in 2018? It's cute, but c'mon, they have the resources to do better than that. I'm hoping for an experience more innovative than a single AA parrot cracking jokes while I dine.

That sounds worse than hell. Having to react over and over to their stupid jokes as if they're funny? Just kill me now.
It's really not that bad. When I went the only awkward jokiness came from the lady seating me and after I didn't respond to any of her puns my waiter was perfectly normal and left me alone. I think they can tell who wants to play along and who doesn't. I enjoyed it there.

Every product of someone's imagination is an IP. But at least this is a nice vintage Walt Disney original native IP extension, and seemingly executed in a respectful way. It feels like a continuation of the Tiki Room, even if it's not everything it could be. Still want to know more about what we will experience there.

Oh I know...that is my point. People around here need to start calling it like it is. They don't like modern film/television/character IP. A tribute to a 50 year old show about talking birds and plants though that most guests can't be bothered to watch, that's totally cool though. :)

I say this lovingly as someone who visits the Tiki Room every visit and makes a point of dragging friends into it, even knowing 95% of them won't like it.

Geeky fan me: OMG they're finally dumping tired Aladdin's Oasis and paying homage to Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room with a new dining spot overlooking The Jungle Cruise in Adventureland! #soexcited #ilovedisneyland

Cynical fan me: Another patronizing addition to DL that plays to nostalgic APs. #imoverit #sideeye #ohbrother

Be the geek. There's no point in being cynical about something like this. Seriously, short of bringing back Tahitian Terrace, what else are they going to do with a spot adjacent to an attraction rooted in mid-century Tiki culture?

I'll tell you what though, wedged between Tiki Room and Jungle Cruise, it would have been the most perfect spot for Trader Sam's if the park wasn't still dry and they hadn't already opened it over at the DL Hotel!

Combining the Tropical Imports structure and the land where this is going, they could build a decent sized two story restaurant.

I recently (jokingly) said I was holding out for an Adventureland tiki bar in this location. But really, an Adventureland Trader Sam's would be Awesome.

I ask myself the same thing. I got banned from MiceChat for being too negative but on here I'm not negative enough? Insanity.

I thought you got kicked out because you exposed a certain annoying poster as a fraud. Or was that the first time? It was epic either way.

re: Tropical Hideaway
The concept art looks kind of meh to me but anything that ties in with the Tiki Room and the Jungle Cruise is great. I wish it wasn't quick service though or is that not confirmed yet?

Well they could demolish the entire complex of buildings and start from scratch. There's a lot of innovative things that are possible.

Let's be clear, I'm not against this project, I am just skeptical that it will be anything more than just a nicely themed dining spot.

Fingers crossed that this will become a second location to get Dole whips at… I can't even remember the last time I got a Dole Whip in Disneyland since the lines are always so long!

Only got a temp ban for that. So did she but a bunch of people reached out to the woman she was claiming to be and she contacted the site who permabanned her.

I'm just guessing here, but this could become the only place to get a Dole Whip. As you say, always a long line so why not move it out of the walkway.
