News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

Those are rides to fill out a punchlist. Hagrid’s Motorbike and Space Mountain were built to be signature attractions that are anchors of their respective parks. It’s just that Space Mountain, from design through to principal construction predates computer design of roller coaster track.

Whether Space Mountain in WDW should maintain the Starport 75 Alpha and Omega configuration in a rebuild, or should be redesigned in its entirety, is an interesting discussion to have.
Regardless, Burbank is content to let TDO slap the 48 year old coaster back together indefinitely until it crumbles or worse, and it is a real problem.
Space Mountain was the first all-computer designed roller coaster..

Has anybody figured out which rides have a shorter ride cycle time than tron? I bet it’s not many. And certainly no E’s.

The carousel is probably longer. Winnie the Pooh? Maybe?
Why would you call it an E then? It isn't. If it had actual TRON theming besides the trains, maybe. Its a coaster in a box that COMPLETELY destroys the theme 3 seconds into the ride.

i would hate to lose the dual track of WDW Space. If they were going to retrack it, I’d prefer they keep the basic setup but try to fit in a slightly wider track to allow a vehicle with side by side seating to increase capacity.

Edit: also add on board audio
I don't disagree on keeping the dual track. I personally would not like to see the side by side seating, the seating configuration is one of the things that makes it so unique. Retrack in same or similar setup, upgrade audio obviously, back in service.

Not being a fan of coasters, I will admit I don't ride Space Mountain when we go to WDW. Is the dual track an active feature of the ride? Meaning I know in Hershey Park they have Lightening Racer, a wooden coaster with dual tracks that "race" each other. I always thought (based on youtube clips) that Space mountain was pretty dark such that you really don't see much of the other track/ride vehicle

Never going to happen RMC coasters are extremely restrictive and kick off a ton of riders for not fitting in restraints Disney isn’t going to tolerate that, also those rides are way too intense for MK. Especially when that is going to be the story with Tron when it opens.

Not unless you get to ride when the lights are on! No, the main benefit of the dual track is having double capacity. It also allows for some small differences in the track and experience between the two sides.
An RMC single-track will be the dream for Space. They would be able to remove the lift hill and utilize launch systems.
Meh. There’s already a number of launch coasters at WDW, including one being built right. I think it is better to have it with the lift hill plus the ride does need to be any faster or longer (a lot of the intensity comes from being in the dark and not seeing what is coming). It’s not like Space is a “short” coaster that needs more length to be acceptable.

Keep the layout, redo the track, add on board audio and better projection effects.

Tron is gonna kick off a TON of riders.

Disagree with calls to make Space Mountain a single track attraction. For this style of attraction, 2.5 minutes is honestly the perfect length. I've never ridden Space Mountain and wish it had continued longer 😂

Also, one track would mean half the capacity which is the last thing we need at MK (even with Tron).

space mountain’s theoretical hourly throughput is 2000. That’s the same as everest and very close to Aerosmith and most others built for huge parks.

The bobsled configuration cancels out the benefit of two tracks. One longer track would mean a longer ride and potentially more blocks for trains/capacity.

Current capacity of SM is not a valid argument to not change it.

Ah duh, good point. 😅
