any big surface that is above ground is a big huge umbrella dear. ceilings on the outside of buildings have to take into account uplift for what is normal for the area. big quotes for "normal for the area". but thank you for proving my point. you understand absolutely nothing about wind forces and dynamics. and simply because man approves does not mean nature obeys. and it never will! what i find deficient is those that believe simply because man says is enough to believe in the hubris of man.
You think 149 mph gusts of wind normally occur in south Orange County?

I am surprised that the canopy has so many wrinkles in it at this time. You would think the contractors would work each of the ribbons until they are smooth. Looking at the photos from today, it looks like the canopy needs an injection of Botox :)

I am just curious to know how they get them out.

The Botox injection is the air that fills it and smooths the “wrinkles”, keep scrolling through pics and you will see some inflated w no wrinkles.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but, won't smoke from the steam engines become an issue?. Seems like the canopy would trap the smoke on a still day.

Sounds like you should get on the phone with Disney and the people who designed this building, since you know so much more than all of them.

You really think Disney would be building this if they thought there was a reasonable chance it would blow away the first time a hurricane passes through?

Well, I expect to be PAID for my opinions. Otherwise, I'll just post them here and not get into so much detail about the changes.

I do think that some wind gusts are gonna be "interesting" under all that. We were under SSE when a gale was coming through from a thunderstorm. We ducked into the Kodak camera store with 3 kids, all under 7. We left the stroller outside and watched the wind knock it over and then wisk it away, never to be seen again (at least not by us!). After about 45 min or so, the wind died down enough for us to make a mad dash for the monorail. I had a kid under each arm. The oldest and my wife were right behind. We never ran so fast in our lives! The two youngest were scared crying all the way. But, we made it on the monorail, to the TTC and then back to the Poly. Captain Cooks pizza dinner never tasted so good. All the kids cleaned that stuff up! Of course, we shared a couple of Dole Whips before heading to our room. We would still talk about that day whenever we walk under SSE.

But, just to be clear, Spaceship Earth stayed put, right?

Additionally, my post was pretty clearly addressed to @casplas, but it sort of seems like you're responding as if I were addressing you . . . this isn't a case of multiple accounts, is it?

Nah, it just reminded of that story, buddy. It's all good. Oh, I have only one account. I could never keep multiple ones straight!

whose the primary? You? 🤣
Absolutely not. 🤣 At first I thought they were around 13 years old or something but a lot of their posts make me think this is a second account someone is using to say the things they don't want to with their main account in order to keep from having that one ignored. I personally don't care if someone puts me on their ignore list because I refuse to filter my responses to people. No need for a second account. 😁

Anyone who has walked into a strong wind with an umbrella can attest to the effects of the angle of attack on lift. Some angles, you get lots of lift, some angles, you get none.

I'm guessing the canopy has been computer modeled to death, and the expected wind loads, even in a hurricane, won't budge it.

Exactly. The original is in Shanghai. I think they would have built that one in anticipation of typhoons.
