Wow I thought the cabana statement was a joke at first - just looked them up and wow that was a terrible idea. $650 in 2016?! At that price point you might as well have gone to one of the hotels and bought a room for the day if you didn't already have one.

Heaven forbid they actually build some indoor attractions where you can sit for a bit in air conditioning.

That’s the problem. All of these VIP lounges, cupcake parties, etc. give Disney a financial incentive to make the day less enjoyable and comfortable for the “regular” $100 a day guest.

There’s a cap on how many people can partake in the VIP experiences. It’s not an amenity that can be sold to every customer, potential paid FastPass aside. Personally, the existence of private firework viewing parties has never diminished my enjoyment as a pleb.

Waiting in lines for food that would be shorter if the Magic Kingdom didn’t have less dining capacity today than 30 years ago doesn’t diminish your enjoyment?

I have literally never eaten in the parks without a reservation aside from the odd ice cream here and there, so no? I also had zero issues moving reservations around or adding ones during my last trip at the beginning of 2020. But to me, capacity in general is a separate issue from the cabanas and dessert parties being discussed here anyway.

That’s a perfect example. Previously the magic kingdom offered 2 night parades and a fireworks show to help spread guests out throughout the night.

By pushing all of those guests to 1 fireworks show it creates a larger demand for that one show which makes the viewing areas more crowded and coveted which increases the demand for the cupcake parties while lowering the amount of operations staff needed.

So yes, you get a lesser experience at MK now than you did 10 years ago.

A dining venue is closed to guests because of the fireworks desert party. It is not a separate issue. Already reduced capacity was removed to facilitate an up charge event.

I seriously doubt the parades diminished demand for the fireworks. They're entirely different experiences. Additionally, I did not say that the full experience in terms of number of entertainment options available was equal to how it was years ago, just that I think the standard experience coexisting with newer VIP offerings for certain events has very little to do with why. Reduction of parades is a separate issue.

Are we talking pre- or post-COVID? Admittedly, I did not keep up with Tomorrowland Terrace's dining options, but I thought that, even though it's currently closed, before the shutdown it was still operating as normal into the early evening, at which point it converted to the dessert party, meaning that, while it was not open to the general public, it didn't represent a massive reduction in capacity because it just diverted the VIP traffic (which would presumably be taking up similar capacity elsewhere in the park even without the parties) to a single location. I had always assumed that Tomorrowland Terrace was chosen specifically because it's not as desirable of a fireworks viewing location as it once was with the now projection-heavy show, meaning the general public would rather be elsewhere for HEA anyway.

Well I never said that they did. They spread out the crowds. More guests will watch fireworks from Frontierland in order to get a good spot for the night parade.

Or guests who just watched the night parade in Frontierland, will just stay there to watch fireworks knowing that Main Street will already be full.

Plus there will be many guests who choose 1 nighttime entertainment option, a night parade OR fireworks.

That’s why during the 60th Disneyland ran 2 night parades, fireworks and 2 showings of fantasmic.

Oh interesting! So the cupcake parties are only being held at the terrace now?

Or is this because the cupcakes haven’t returned yet?
There are no upsell 'parties' happening at the moment for the general public. So, unless the usual reserved places are being rented to private parties/conventions, all those reserved places should be available to the general public.

Even TT is open to the public.
