I saw a video of the Shanghai Disneyland version of this ride, and it doesn't seem that bad to me...I'll certainly give it a try at WDW if I decide to visit there again. FWIW.

Good luck with that project Disney, we may indeed have seen the last of the trains other than static display. You just don't put an ad out for steam locomotive engineer and fireman its a craft passed from master to apprentice.

They have a skeleton crew right now. They’ll be fine but it is going to be a challenge.

Yeah, no. That’s not how the WDWRR goes about getting their crew.

There are lots of railroads which operate steam in the US and they all pay better than Disney.
Maybe it’s because they’re actual tourist railroads and not a theme park attraction and therefore pay their employees more than the minimum hourly attractions CM wage that the WDWRR crew makes? 😱

In terms of the WDWRR crew, the old timers stayed with the railroad after it went down in December of 2018. The youngsters were transferred to different attractions. Not sure who all was laid-off and furloughed due to COVID. Hopefully the old timers were furloughed at the worst and will be able to come back.

Good to know some of the institutional knowledge stuck around.

Yes. It has been closed for an outrageous amount of time and should absolutely open for 10/1. I just don’t have much faith and they really aren’t pushing nostalgia on our 50th like they did for DL, so I don’t know that it’s a priority. After 50 years, they don’t seem to realize WDW, itself, is an IP to many people. They don’t need Moana to sell it.
At best, they'll probably pull the engine back into Main Street Station for photo ops. Maybe you can blow the whistle with a surcharge!! 😮

That was a dark time. The Tents and the Express bus backstage park to park. That about sums up Bobs' techniques and misunderstanding of the medium.
The backstage express bus was a pretty good idea - but it needed to be better implemented so it didn’t feel backstage and it needed to be a high-end perk more than an upcharge.
