Tron 2?

I agree. It could even have light cycles on tiered platforms in front of a giant screen. Think Soarin but instead of being in a hang glider you would be on a light cycle. Or just rows and rows of individual simulators. Actually this might be a better fit for Disney Quest. That would sell some tickets!

This is a good idea. Rows of simulators that are controlled by the rider and interact with each other. I like that.

it would be cool to see some cool interactive experience.... i'm seeing something similar to magicquest that universal is gettin w/ the new harry potter land. They're would be several different rooms each with a different tron style game..... i think it'd be cool.

So to sum up, attractions based on Tron, a movie about computers in 1982 fits Tomorrowland's theme, but aliens and interdemensional travel does not?

I just want to make sure I'm clear on the theming hypocrisy here.

I don't get it either.

I will say though, I would rather see Tron in DL's Tomorrowland. It is far too realistic (virtual reality) to fit in with our theme.

And it's still why Tomorrowland should be renamed due to its theming.

Wait, did a thread got locked because of the previous sentence?

You kinda had to be there, at that time, and at the right age. If you were, TRON was awesome. My friends and I saw it multiple times in the theatre and played the arcade game for hours on end.

For anyone too young to remember that time.....I really don't see how the original movie would have too much appeal. I really need to go back and watch it.

I was a TRON Geek when I first saw it. Nobody had ever seen anything like it, and then came the video games. It was quite the phenom.

Recently I purchased the DVD and watched it for the first time in 20 years. The story and pacing are awful.........but the visuals and action scenes (particularly the bikes) really hold up and are still very exciting. I got goosebumps from the teaser. I am hopeful.

As for an attraction........I just don't see how it would fit. It would age so fast...just like the first movie did. How about something at Disneyquest tho?

Answer in the form of a question:
Where's the people scanner so I can upload my body in Second Life or the Game Grid? Or AI on the level of the MCP or Tron himself?

It's decades-away futuristic technology created by a plot device uber-genius that can't possibly exist right now save for the work Flynn and company.

Lightcycle battle, whether simulator or well-done dark-ride, TL or DQ, would be great. I'd especially like a head-to-head multilayer lightcycle simulator. Anyone ever tried playing network lightcycles? Because of the timing involved, it can't be done properly on the internet because of lag, let alone even a decent home network. It'll work for a while, but you get a network buffer overload and BAM, right in the light trail. Such a simple concept, a simple game whose rules anyone can learn in seconds, and yet all our powerful day-to-day computing can't handle it.

If they could scan you into the game grid via an effect similar to the transporter in the Las Vegas Star Trek: The Experience, it'd be a great bit of continuity too. I wouldn't mind some disc-battles either. I could see this with off-the-shelf body position technology in use with webcams, or a device like a Wii remote. The Alien Encounter game at DQ could serve as a platform for game grid tanks too.

Heck, even a ride in a Recognizer a la Body Wars, looking down on the game grid, helping squash the bad guys and rooting for your bike could be something.

Which ones? I know HM has a brief cameo but that is all I can think of.
Also in Winnie the Pooh. Mr. Toad is handing the deed to Owl -

Where are my doors to other dimensions or intergalatic travel? Both are theorectically possible, just like what you have mentioned above.

None of the above exist nor do they fit with Tomorrowland by the fans definition of the land, except for Tron, because, as this thread seems to be evidence of, they simply want it there.

No, not an attraction based on a movie about computers in 1982, because, as has been mentioned, there is a new Tron movie in development called Tron: Legacy. The movie is coming out in, what, 2012 or something.

Until the Tron movie comes out and it is unequivocally and obviously set in the future I stand by everything I have said in this thread.

Until proven otherwise, Tron is not futuristic any more than SGE and MILF and should be treated with the same rigorous standards of theming other attractions are.

Or everyone can let the theming of Tomorrowland go and realize it is a quasi sci-fi land that keeps its name primarily for brand recognition. That's what I do!

Regardless of it's future attraction state, I am looking forward to the Tron movie.

Thoughts on Tron:

I was the right age for Tron. But we never went to the movies. I've actually never seen it. But the visual effects were really something at the time! You couldn't help but be mesmerized by them.

I've always heard Tron the movie was kind of a snore. So I never bothered sitting down and watching it. I'd played the 80s arcade game (which was awesome) but I was never a Tron fan. But I always thought there was a lot of wasted potential there just based on the cool look and concept.

Disney seems to be trying to capitalize on that with the new movie. (And that new trailer is pretty darn awesome.) But regardless of how good either of these movies may be, the Tron concept is bigger than the movies. Even if the new movie stinks, a Tron ride could be exceptionally cool. Just like that 80s arcade game was better than the movie that inspired it.

Well since the new movie is supposed to be set in the future you would be wrong. And if they could put Dream Flight in TL that had nothing what so ever to do with the future Tron will fit in well. As others have metioned regardless if the movie took place in 1982 it's based off of technology that still doesn't exist today. A scfi story doesn't have to be set in the future.
