You know we be lovin that Mickey outfit!!
I had to laugh a little bit because knives. My dad had this habit of buying knives for people and never remembering to give them to them. He'd think "Oh, so and so needs a good chefs knife!!" and he'd buy a whole set of really good quality knifes for the person. They'd come in and he'd set them aside until the next time he saw them. Only he'd forget he had them. He was a hoarder, so they'd get covered up somewhere, lost in the chasm of mail, magazines, and other junk he ordered and never opened. Then he'd think "Oh, so and so needs a good knife!" And he'd order another set. This goes on and on and on over the years. When he died and we had to go through the house, it was a real chore. You had to watch where you stepped because underneath the solid layer of mail on the floor, there might be a gun or a knife. They we all packaged, guns in a case, etc, but you couldn't put your weight on your step until you ascertained you wouldn't break anything. We found 7 boxes worth of knives, mostly kitchen knives, but some pocket and hunting knives, too, between his house and his pickup trucks. He had quite the collection and we ended up just giving a bunch of knives to neighbors, friends, the lady at the bank (who for some reason had never been given any by my dad, which is soooo weird, because usually he gave them to anyone and everyone!) He had already given us so many I had started giving them away to friends. I gave a set to a magcian friend here before my dad even died, and I kept pawning them off on cousins and on my friends...I gave a set to my best friend's daughter who wanted to be a chef. I gave some to my in-laws, and to my friends here from the language school where we all learned Dutch. I had no room for more knives!!! And that was BEFORE he died and we found this stash:We had a really fun time at the grocery store today!
Gary loves and has an extensive knife collection. He also loves Pandora and particularly FOP. (I mentioned it in my Oct. Hawaii TR).
@riverside was at Disney when Gary sent me a link for these Navi Knifes.
I asked her if she could see if they had them there and she found it and brought it home!
So we took a little drive into town to our favorite grocery store and she gave it to him!
I had told him she had something for me so he wouldn’t argue about driving to Pittsburgh.
He got a little tear in his eye when we told him she had something for him.
Thank you again @riverside !
(And thanks for my magnet)!

The boxes in the back of the car also contain more knives. Whenever someone mentions knives, I have to think of my dad and just laugh.
That was super nice of Riverside to bring them for him!! And thank you all for the laugh!

It's one of the best memories. And it's fun because my kids are growing up with those memories, too. My daughter has a group of friends who play D&D, and they go over to their friend Rick's house, because he has this sort of out building on their farm where they can make noise laughing and make a mess and it doesn't matter. And they all go over there after school and cook a meal together and eat with his family and then they play their game. So the first time she went over there, they made spaghetti for like 10 people. Her chore at home is to help me cook, so she is good at chopping veggies and such, and knows the basics of cooking. So she was kind of leading the cooking since none of the other kids spend much time in the kitchen and she came home complaining about how crappy their knives were. She's so used to the top quality ones we have like Henckels, and AG Russell that the flimsy little IKEA knife was NOT cutting it. (pun totally intended) I couldn't bring all the knives back to the Netherlands...THAT would have been fun getting through security!! So my brother just put everything we didn't give away into a storage unit. I told E we should have brought back a bunch of them to give to all her friends so when she cooks at their houses she has decent knives to use! Thank you, Grandpa! I did set aside a set of knives for both of the kids for when they have their own homes. So grandpa's obsession with knives has really made an impact on them!If you hadn’t added the picture I would have missed the magnitude. As I first read it, I missed the word "worth" and was thinking how in the world could she have given so many people knives from 7 sets (because I equated 7 boxes as 7 sets). But holy moly - you really meant 7 boxes OVERFLOWING with knives! But isn’t it nice how certain things can remind us of our parents and make us laugh and be happy, even when they are no longer with us
I'd offer to send him some, but I don't have access to them. My brother has them all in his storage unit because there was no way to get even HALF of them back here, and what would I do with them if I DID get them back here? I brought enough back for my kids to have a big chefs knife, 2 smaller ones, a few paring knives, a bread knife, and a serrated knife or two. So they'll have full sets of cooking knives. But I really was worried about getting any more through security/customs. That would look kind of weird if you didn't know my dad.Gary would be in pig heaven with this haul!
