I just wanted to take a moment to thank you guys for all of your support and keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. We aren't good, and probably won't be for awhile, but we are ok and taking it one day at a time. Logan is back in Iowa and started his classes today. That's one of the hardest things right now, not having him here with us. He's ok and has a great group of friends there and has already made an appointment to talk to a counselor this week, so I know he'll be ok, it just hurts my heart when he calls crying and I can't hug him.
I know everyone is curious, but no one will ask, so I will share what happened. Lily was at an intersection that we now know has been an issue for awhile and has had many accidents. There have been plans to change it into a round about to help alleviate these problems, but they were tabled awhile ago. They are now fast tracking the project. I'm glad to hear that, but unfortunately, it doesn't help us right now. Anyhow, it is a two way stop, and she apparently thought it was a 4 way stop based on everyone's statements. She pulled out in front of a dump truck in her VW Beetle. She never stood a chance. We can only guess that he was in her blind spot when she pulled out. As I said in my previous post, we have been told that her death was instantaneous and she was not in any pain. Her best friend was in the front seat with her. She was in critical condition initially with a skull fracture and a brain bleed. She is doing well now physically, and will thankfully not be likely to ever remember anything from the accident. She's, understandably, having trouble coping with the loss of Lily. Their friend that was in the backseat walked away from the accident with a concussion and a few stitches. He, unfortunately, remembers everything about the accident. We check in with him periodically, and he seems to be doing ok. Lily's boyfriend is having a really hard time. He has been over several times and played video games with Brian and the boys. He and Owen are going to the movies this weekend, so hopefully they can help each other.
I've been pretty quiet here on the forums, but I have been reading and enjoying everyone's trip reports.
Here are a few of Lily's senior pictures.
Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers.
