I am planning a trip with my wife and son (he will be almost 3 the end of august)

i now live in charlotte nc, but i was born and raised in west palm beach florida......just moved to nc 2 years ago. so i know it will be hot.

i pretty much know the ins and outs of the parks.....i will be staying off the resort at tropical palms cottages......(like a family tradition) and getting 5 day park hopper passes.

my question is, will it be busy? i know school is back in session at that time (thats what i was planning) iam just making sure with labor day etc....it wont be ridiculously busy.

i plan on it being hot, ill have plenty of water and a "squeeze breeze" full of ice water

i can always go sit inside a restaurant or Country bear jamboree if its too hot. but the combo of heat/busy park is what sucks!

any help would be great.

this is my first post, but i have been lurking. i love this site.

We went at that time last August.. and it was amazing! Really popular rides like TSM and etc were still very busy, but I walked on the Tower multiple times.. The heat was even manageable. I loved it!

My family and I went last year the 3rd week of August and I will ALWAYS go at that time. It was great! The crowds were very low, not empty but barely a wait in all the major attractions. Walk ons for a few too. I have gone to Disney in the middle of summer in the past and it is no where near those crowds. Of course the heat, but if you do the parks at opening until around lunchtime, it would be great to enjoy the pool at your hotel (thats what we did almost every day). My son was 4 and it was wonderful! Enjoy!:sohappy:

We have gone every year at the end of august for the past 4 years. The crowds have steadily grown each year. This past summer i would consider. it to be very busyHowever if you get to the parks early and use your fastpasses wisely you can get in all the major attractions by lunch time.

I've gone the same time for the past 5 years. (going this year also)
The crowds aren't bad making the parks very manageable. Waits are minimal for just about every ride except for Toy Story Mania, Soarin', Test Track, and most of the rides in Fantasyland. But Fastpass will solve that problem. I don't mind it much but the heat & humidity is what bothers most at that time of year. Definitely dress comfortably with thin, lightweight materials. Also comfortable shoes will make the day much easier. It's hurricane season so it tends to rain alot so take that into consideration. We usually wear sneakers with good cushioning and pack flip flops and poncho's in our backpack in case it rains.
Also, this is the time of year that free dining is offered and will probably be this year as well. Make sure you make ADR's 180 days ahead if you plan on eating at any of the table service restaurants.

Agree with everyone. Last summer we went during the last week in August. It was brutal hot but the crowds were better than any other time of the summer. Big attractions were still crazy long with lines but overall it was better.

You will also see them putting up Fall decorations so it is kind of cool. It was all regular one day and the next, scarecrows, leaves and pumpkins everywhere...cool.

I know u said it is a tradition to stay at that resort, but check Disney offers in the beginning of April. They usually offer free dining at that time of year and may be worth it for you to stay on property and take advantage of the yummy dining plan.

I love going that time of year. Crowd wise, I think the parks are great. Get your fast passes for the major attractions just in case but the wait times were not bad at all. I think the only long wait we had was for Peter Pan's Flight at that was at 50-70 minutes. Toy Story Mania wasn't too bad either, the most, if I remember correctly, 40 minutes and also Test Teack was about the same. We were able to get fast passes twice for most attractions. Just remember to bring your rain ponchos. We were caught in rain at least three different times that week last year and I don't mean a passing shower. It poured for a good half an hour to hour when we were at HS, thank God it was near closing time when it happened. Enjoy!

I'm from Pa and we always go in mid August....I've never waited for more than 20 min. for a ride and if you hit a popular one do the fast pass and it works fine....also love the free meal plan at that time of yr if you stay on grounds.....We are planning to go mid Aug this yr.....as for heat it never bothers me...I just keep thinking it's better than 15 degrees....:ROFLOL:

We arrived 9/1/9. The parks weren't busy at all. We only used FP's a few times for TSM, Soarin', Test Track and Everest. Most lines were 20 mns or less. It sure was hot though.

We have gone every year in September since 1997 and it's the best time of all to be there! Crowds are low and temperatures are fine. It's still hot but not mid summer brutal heat! Someone mentioned the free dining offer that has been offered for that time period and suggested you see if it will be available this year too. I second that suggestion! If you can, I would definitely consider changing your accomodations to stay on property! The free dining plan is awesome and saves our family a fortune!! Plus you can take advantage of the Disney transportation system and not have to worry about driving & paying to park! Enjoy your trip!
